Before we try the registry
c:\windows>attrib -s -h -r system.dat enter
to check if you have done this right at the prompt
c:\windows>dir system*.* enter
you should see a file called system.dat.
If yes then continue if you can not see system.dat then you may have missed a space.
If the system.dat file does show up.
c:\windows>ren system.dat system.bad enter
Reboot the computer does it now start windows?

Ok lets check your typing
after attrib there is a space before -s and a space between that and the -h and a space between that and the -r
and a space between that and the system.dat. Also did you put the - in (the hyphen)

Lets try this when you start the computer if it Starts at the C:>cd windows enter
should now be C:\windows>cd system enter
Should now be C:\windows\system>attrib -s -h -r mpfbocks.vxd enter
C:\windows\system>attrib -s -h -r mpfirewl.vxd enter
C:\windows\system>dir|sort|more enter
This will give you a list of files sorted Alphabetically can you see the files mpfbocks.vxd and mpfirewl.vxd ?
If yes
C:\windows\system>del mpfbocks.vxd enter
C:\windows\system>del mpfirewl.vxd enter
If this ask are you sure you want to delete the files say yes. Reboot.
Make sure of your spaces between attrib -s -h -r and the | key is above the enter key with the \
