I downloaded the free Sygate firewall, and it works great for keeping my system garbage free. The problem is if I am away from actively working online for more than 10-minutes or so, I come back to a message that tells me I'm now offline. I'm running with a cable internet connection. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Ok, who is your ISP and what type of cable connection do you have?
This may be caused by your ISP disconnecting you when idle. There are free tools available such as the ones in this list which can keep your connection from timing out. I have never used any such utilities and thus cannot recommend any of them directly. However, CNet has a policy of 100% ADWARE FREE software so I feel fairly confident to suggest them.
If suggesting software like this is not good practise then please inform a mod/admin and I shall edit this post accordingly!
