I'm tring to reset my overclock on my AMD 2500+ barton core. I had it at one time but I reset the jumps to check on some speed things for a friend to see where his Amd chip was running. Now when I put the jumper back to 200mz the system boots to the xp welcome screen then reboots it will keep on doing this all day if you let it.

pc3200 ram
windows XP sp2

Anyone know how to fix this????

well, one way is using the cmos reset jumper, refer to your motherboard manual. Another way is to take the battery out of the motherboard for about 30 or so seconds and that will make the cmos reset. Make sure that any FSB jumpers on the mobo are reset to your FSB (333 if i remember correctly).

Caution: make sure you do not replace the mobo battery the wrong way or you could damage the mobo

I'm not saying that this is the cause of the problem necessarily but I want to check this first before you go any further. Am I right in thinking that at some point you removed your own cpu & inserted a friends cpu in its place, then switched them back again?

If so, did you remove the old thermal compound from your cpu & apply fresh stuff before reinserting it?

This is what I did I had my AMD barton 2500+ OC by setting the jumper to 200mz
My friend wanted to see bench marks on my system to compare to his system.
so I set the jumper back to 166mz cleared cmos and run the bench mark on it.
Never removed any ram,cpu or ect.
After I run the bench mark for him I set the jump back to 200mz cleared the cmoz.
and rebooted the system
So if its set at the 200mz it boots to the log on screen for the two users I have on windows XP home then reboots it will keep on doing this until I hold in the power botton to shut it down. So I had to reset the jumper to 166mz so I can log on and use the system not OC.

OK, well at least you haven't swapped cpu's around. Its possible though that in clearing the cmos, some of the settings are now different to how they were before (when the system worked ok at 200MHz) and this could account for the problems you are having.

Does this sound like a possibility?

I'm lost on this because the only thing I did was change the jumper No hardware or software was change I'm thinging it as to do with windows Xp home sp2 I'm going to try it one more time booting into safe mode and see if that works.I was thinking may be its some thing in sp2 so it will not let you do this with out formatting and reinstalling windows thats the last thing I want to do.
