Like many users I am beset by trojan viruses-specifically "win32.trojan SARS,
C:Windows\Temp\Win32.dll,C:Windows\temp\setup.dllor setup.sedll and Trojan Horse Back Door Generic.LPV!
I run Windows 98 and these viruses were identified by AVG.
Subsequent to reading your solution to a user with one of the same viruses (se.dll) I downloaded Hijack this Ccleaner and SpybotS&D.
Firstly where do I find Task Manager in Windows 98,as I wish to locate"outpostupdate" if it exists in my computer?
Secondly when I run Hijack this do I run a "system scan only" or "a scan and logfile?" Do I then check all the boxes to the 20 to 30 lines suggested by your solution?
If so do I then press the "Fix checked" button?
Next you suggest "run in safe mode, viewing of hidden files enabled and delete the following if they should remain."
Is this the correct procedure for me to run relative to the viruses and operating system I run?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

geoff williamson....

First off, when dealing with HiJackThis logs, DO NOT attempt ANY fix unless directed to do so by one of the specialists in the Malware Forum. Doing so can severly damage your operating system and may render it unrecoverable.

Please go to the Malware Forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the START HERE .

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
