Don't know where to start to get it going in the right direction. I have done all the normal stuff: deleted cache, etc and removed all extraneous programs. Have spybot and WinPatrol.

help, please, at least to get me started. I am on a wired networked laptop and both computers are slow. Have virus protection software and have scanned with everything I'v e got like one trillion times.

help - tired, can't think and fed up with the difficult computers.

Can you run tests with IE6 and post those, usually down is bigger than up

haven't checked IE on desktop but am assuming it would be similar results, slow download speed fast upload

You could run WinsockXPFix first

ran winsockfix ... still slow loading images... choppy not smooth, like downloading the images takes some time... could there be something interfering with the downloading? Since my downloading time is so slow?

laptop down 26 (slightly better) and 333 up (much better) Downloading files is painful...

You can check the micro filters or if you have a cable which can go direct from the wall socket to the modem or if you remove the phone lead from the micro filter to see if the line speed tests are any different

See if you can use the modem configuration page, your ISP can tell you this.

Beyond that, ask your ISP to test the line, then ask for a new modem

As it is a laptop, ask a friend with a different or even the same ISP if you can plug it in to their line, even though the desktop is doing the same thing, you can at least say to the ISP that it is fine on another line, it may go to replacing the modem.

Turned out it was my Westell 2200 Modem from Verizon. Reboot and away we go!
