Thnx keith
its the mother in laws puter so will try that asap and let you know...one other thing I have noticed is when you reboot the computer it starts up with a black screen and something like symantic ... asking if you want to boot with hard disc or boot with cd rom 10 secs to choose...you leave it and it restarts normally dont know whats happened there... would this sort itself out when I uninstall using your patch...and when I use the patch will it be straightforward enough to load norton 2005.I have a new disc ready to go.

cheers for helping man appreciate it.....

After you run SymNRT then it would be odd if there was a problem installing 2005, however, run disc clean up and then disc defragmenter, get the trial of tune up here

http://www.tune-up.com

Run disc clean up then registry clean up then click optimize to run reg defrag which needs a reboot

Then install 2005

If you boot the PC and keep tapping the delete key until it enters set up, look for boot priority then set it to hard drive then CD ROM Drive, press F10 to save and exit, type Y to confirm then press enter to reboot

To change the boot priority you may need to use the down arrow to highlight the first boot device then press the page up key until it shows as hard drive

Usually it can stay as booting from the CD ROM Drive first as the XP CD is the only one which should set that off
