HELP Nothing is showning on my monitor

hi i built a pc and i put everything together as it sould be and i switched it on there is a bleep the hd light is on the cd drive opens all the fans work but... my monitor light just flashes as if its on standby and nothing apears on the monitor at all the gc is working because the fan on it is working but i cant get a a picture on my monitor. if any one can help me with this problem it would be a hudge help thenks]

is it plugged into your gfx card. and specs will be needed.

i hav a 6600gt 1gb ram amd 3300+ and yes its pluged into the gfx card ther is no port for it on the mobo. the mobo is a asus
