Screensaver prob

Here is my strange problem. My screensaver will not come on. It is set for my picture show. I can preview it (that works), but when I set it for 1-12 min it will not come on no matter what amount I set it on. Here is my pc: hp pavilion 533 w,Celeron cpu 2.00GHz, 1.99 GHz, 512MB ram, WinXP Pro, IE. I did check the usual, but everything checks out good....still no screensaver. I do have Norton Works installed and have Adaware too. Note...I bought this pc and did not receive any instaltion cd's. I had to install things myself. How can I get my screensaver to work?? <_<
