Fireworks MX 2004 Problem

It seems often now that when I open a majority of my Macromedia programs, that they lock-up at the opening screen right after launch. Does anybody know a solution? The program won't even close, I have to close it in the Task Manager. I searched the Macromedia knowledge base and it told me to end a process that belonged to it's Licensing Program, but since I have Windows 98, I can't end processes.

So are you saying that when you launch macromedia fireworks, when the fireworks image comes up and it all loads it freezes and lockes up and you cant control it?
