I have no SAFE MODE now!

Whenever I try booting in Safe Mode, all I get is a black screen with the Safe Mode frame but no desktop icons or nothing. After XP applies "user settings", I get that prompt about Safe Mode being a special diagnostic mode, but it only flashes for 2 or 3 seconds and doesn't let me click Yes or No. Then... black screen.

Tried Safe Mode with command prompt as well, but no dektop there either. To be honest, I don't know what to put into the command prompt except "exit".

In the command prompt, try typing in explorer.exe and hit ENTER key.

If that doesn't work, boot to Safe Mode with Networking instead. If you still get a black screen only, hit ctrl+alt+del and go to File->New Task and type in explorer.exe and hit OK.

Okay you guys, I am an idiot-

I typed in xybeg.dll instead of xybeg.* as my second filepath. The thing must have worked anyway, though, because when I re-booted, Norton did not show the usual "You have the Vundo trojan" pop-up.

I ran HiJackThis again, to get a log, to post here and get your approval before doing FIX CHECKED.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Right click and copy the below lines. Go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say Yes:

C:\WINNT\system32\xybeg.*

If you get a PendingOperations message, just close it and restart your computer manually.

Your log is clean.
