I am not sure that this goes here. I accidentally downloaded the smithfraud virus. I caught it as soon as I downloaded and think I may have stopped it from putting alot of stuff on my computer. But my only major symptom is that I cannot open and run Norton and it also keeps disabling my firewall. I did a few things to get rid of it and ran a few scans and it seems like everything is ok. So if anyone can help me figure out how to get Norton and my firewall working that would be great.

THanks for any help

I would suggest for you to download hijackthis and post a scan log in the malware forum.

I think that I may have gotten rid of the virus. Everything appears to be ok and none of the scans are showing any ill effects. I do, however, have one problem that I never had before. I have tried going to paypal's website and it will not let me. I tried typing the address and it did not work. I tried linking to it from another site and it did not work. I had my roommate try the site and he was able to get there no problem. I was wondering if this was something that was caused by the virus. Did the virus mess with my settings? I did run a system restore but that did not help me at all. Does anyone know what is wrong and how I can fix it?

Thanks for any help that you can give

You may still be having side effects from the virus.
Please go to the malware forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE .
That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.
If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
