This is a common problem with Norton products.
this solution in the symantec website does not work most of the time.
I have tried this solution and it has worked in most of the cases
1.click start\run\type regedit
click ok.
this will open the registry editor.
:-: please take a backup of the registry before making changes in it.
in the registry editor navigate to the following key
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
create a new String Value named AutoEndTasks
give it a value 1
this is for all users on the computer
2.this is for the current user
navigate to the following registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
create a new String Value named AutoEndTasks
give it a value 1
close the registry editor.
restart the computer.
Now,the pc will shut down with out any non-responding programs showing up.
this tweak is just to tell windows to end the programs which are not responding on shutdown.
This has worked a lot in my case.
