
Upgrading 98 to Win 2000

it should be as simple as putting in your cd...booting from it...formatting the drive and installing...
the biggest reason for this to get complicated...is if you have alot of data that you need to save (which just means that y ou either need to burn it to a cd, or transfer it to another hard drive) or if your computer is not up to spec for 2000

If you have a 2000 upgrade disc you do not have to format the hard drive and all your data will be safe.

I am going to buy whatever is easiest (sounds like Win 2000, NOT XP). The reason I ask is that I have been hearing negative things on upgrading from 98. The "Geek Squad" guy at Best Buy told me that I will encounter all sorts of problems when upgrading 98??? It seemed like nonsense, but nevertheless scared me a bit. Here are some of my computer specs:
HP Pavillion Genuine Intel x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 1
Win 98 second edition
Memory - 127.0 MB of RAM
19.0 GB hard drive space with 11.0 GB free
