I have a windows 98 Dell computer which seems to have a problem. I tried to defragment my computer, but then it came up with an error message saying that I need to run the scan disk utility. Then I started a scan disk but it kept restarting, after the tenth time an error message saying," Scan disk has restarted ten times because windows or another program has been writing to this drive. Quitting some running programs may enable may enable scan disk to finnish sooner. Do you want to continue recieving this warning?" Then I tried to stop some running programs and it does not restart but freezes when it starts to scan "files and folders." Next I pressed CTRL + ALT + DEL and it comes up with a screen saying," The system is either busy or has become unstable. You can wait and see if it becomes available again, or you can restart your computer." I have not figured out how to get scan disk to complete running, does anyone have an idea?
Thanks,
T-man

You can run scandisk in Safe Mode, and turn off all screen savers first. Or, better yet, restart in ms-dos mode, type in scandisk and hit Enter. It will also give you a nice visual of what is on the disk.
