browser trouble,,i think?

Hi there.
Just recently started to have problems with my browser. I have internet explorer and when i view a vid file it seems to screw up the entire browser! The vid files use media player and after they load and show it seems to lock up the browser. when i try to close media player it closes but partially stays in view and the main browser never gets back to normal. it also seems as if the browers tool bar stops working ..i can't use the back button etc....i have to close the window and open another... i have a dell dimension9100....can you help??
