Netzero and Juno are both part of the same company, so that makes sense. I suspect that Netzero automatically restores that setting when you sign on.

As far as AVG, don't think you can disable it. I think you just have to shut it down completely. However, AVG gets along very well with the online virus scans and even most of the other antivirus programs, so this shouldn't be anything you even have to concern yourself with.

For the Windows error on startup, it seems that may be an HP issue. Check the info here.

Did you have Norton installed at one time?

So, Netzero is also re-setting my LAN settings?

I do not have an HP machine, but I did uninstall
Norton awhile ago...not sure if that's when the
error started. Do I have to buy Norton and re-
install it just to get rid of this error. I really
didn't like Norton.

No, I certainly wouldn't do that. Norton is just one of the possibilities causing that error.

A few questions...

Is this a media center PC?

Do you have Quicktime installed?

Do you have HP Image Zone?

Does the error refer to a particular drive?

Do you have a floppy drive or a removeable drive other than your main hard drive?

What do you have disabled from msconfig?

This is a Medion Media Center PC

Quicktime is installed...I use it for a game. I have
gone to: file>recent>clear menu--I found that idea
by searching. No luck.

I have HP Image Zone Express for my printer.

Error doesn't refer to particular drive.

I have a floppy, a cd/dvd rom and cd/dvd burner.

Nothing disabled from msconfig. Teatimer is still
disabled thru the spybot program.

Follow the instructions here to install an update to Image Zone.

Let me know if that resolves it.

I got the message that my system does not meet the minimum
requirements for the install (9997).

Maybe because I am not logged on as an administrator? I don't
know how to do that. I thought that my user logon has administrative
privileges.

Maybe there's a different update for the Express version. Open up the program and see if there's a check for updates option somewhere in the menu. Otherwise visit the HP website and see if there's an update for the specific program version that you have.

Click Start -> Run and type regedit. Click OK.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\ and change the value of the ErrorMode key to 2.

Reboot and let me know if you still get the error.

Thank you. I think everything is fixed. I made a donation in
appreciation of your expertise and patience.

Since you seem knowledgeable, might I ask about another problem?

Ok, I was working on an ebook in Microsoft
Works...almost finished, and BANG, when I go
to open the file, I get: Works cannot open
"C:\Documents and Settings\Bill\Desktop\book.wps".
The file may be in use by another application, the
file format may not be supported by any of the
installed converters, or the file may be corrupt.

Heartbreaking. As far as I've been able to tell, the
closest I can get is to open it in wordpad, and then try
to copy to a new file. But that doesn't save my graphs,
charts, pictures, formatting, etc. Tried emailing to myself,
tried opening with Microsoft Word, no dice.

Any clue?

There's a couple different things you can do.

First, try one of these converters.
http://bizgrok.com/h...oducts/#convert

Or you can try a .wps viewer.
http://itdl.austincc...ads/SETUPVW.EXE

But if neither of those works, then the file is probably corrupt. Then there's not much you can do except delete it and replace the file.

I'm not positive, but they should. There's only one way to find out. Give 'em a try. :tazz:
