Let me start off by saying that I recently got rid of winfixer on my wife's comp with the help of crustyoldbloke, and knew this was the place to come with this question. I've got numerous emails in the past from what is supposedly Ebay and Paypal asking me to update my account and whatnot, and they are phishing scams, and I always forward them to the security people at Ebay or Paypal. Anyway, I got an email today supposedly from an Ebay seller, telling me he has been trying to pay me for my item I'm selling. I'm not selling anything on Ebay right now. So,(like an idiot) I figured I'd better let this person know he has the wrong person. Out of curiosity, I click on the link to the supposed "item"(this thing looked real, let me tell you, because I use Ebay, and it looked identical), and it takes me to the Ebay sign in page. So(out of instinct, and still apparently not thinking) I sign in, expecting to go to the "item". Well, it takes me right back to the sign in page. Long story short, I forward this email to [email protected]. Here is what the reply was......

Hello,

Thank you for writing to eBay regarding an email message you received.

We have reviewed your report and have found that the message you
received was made to appear as if it had been sent by an eBay user;
however, it was not. All email sent to you from other members through
eBay's email system will also appear in the My Messages portion of My
eBay. If you get an email to your registered eBay email address that
looks like it's from eBay or another eBay member asking a question,
check My Messages first. If it's not there, it's a fake email.

Many of these fake emails contain a keystroke virus. If you clicked on
any of the links in the email, you may have exposed your computer to
this virus.

We are unable to determine if your computer is actually infected with a
virus. If you have not already done so, you should seek out a virus
scanner program to use on your system.

Let me say that my windows updates are current, as well as my Norton Antivirus definitions, and my Adaware, Spybot, and Microsoft Antispyware updates are also current. I ran a virus scan, as well as all 3 spyware programs, and nothing came up. I thought it might be a good idea to come here and post my HijackThis log also, just to be safe, so If someone can tell me if there is anything suspicious in my log, I'd sure appreciate it. Also, should I check anything else? Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but, better safe than sorry. Thanks in advance, and here's the log

Hello again Jim

I just saw your post in the 3-day old, and since I closed your original thread to me this morning, your name was immediately familiar. In fact you could have added this to the original thread, I wouldn't have minded.

The reason for the "don't reply to your own thread" is that we look for 0 replies.

I have just looked over your HJT log and it is still clean. Having read your narrative and having had some dealings with eBay, they may be worrying you unnecessarily, keyloggers normally show up quite well in HJT logs. However, when your personal security may be at risk, we should not be complacent. So I am quite happy to look deeper into your registry.

Download:WinPFind

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder.

Restart normally and post the contents of WinPFind.txt

Hey thanks Phil! Yeah, as it turned out, when I got that phony email, I clicked the link in the email(I know, I know, it was stupid!), and it took me to the Ebay sign in page(a fake one that looked real), and, without thinking, I signed in. Well apparently, that's how they got my sign in info, as my Ebay account was hijacked, and they put a couple items up for sale on my account, hoping they would get "offers" through a email link in the ad. I straightened all that out with Ebay, and changed my password and whatnot, so I'm probably o.k. now, as it appears that's all they got. But I have my WinPFind log, just to be safe. Here it is:

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.
