I had to reinstall my 2002 GatewayP3 in August due to Trojan or something like that, since my Norton antivirus had expired by accident--
I reinstalled all and played with other stuff--have Zone Alarm AV and then accidently deleted OE4-
now I can't get OE e-mail" : MS error message: "OE could not be started because Msoe.dll could not be loaded."--MS is no help-they say I'm obsolete!!!
I do use Roadrunner e-mail--but it is a mess--as RR people even say===RR is no help also.

Questions to forum:
without buying new computer, what is my best solution:
1. OE 6?--can I load and use? is it worth it?
2. Outlook--latest program: can I load and use?
3. find a OE 4 to reinstall on computer?--can't find anywhere I've looked but I'm not looking everywhere.
4. use hotmail via MS?--I just signed up but would like to keep my woh.rr.com e-mail address-maybe I have to bite the bullet and change to something else.
5. Buy new computer with all the latest obsolete stuff on it??---computer companies can be cruel, can't they?

Thanks in advance for any help--and Merry Christmas, Email removed by mod: Murray

to reinstall OE...go to start > control panel > add remove programs...then click on the add/remove windows components...make sure outlook express is checked...then press ok...it should install OE...it may ask for the ME cd.....or you can use standard Outlook..which comes in any microsoft office package...you could download and use mozilla firebird...it's free and pretty easy to use...

also..please edit your email out of your post...it's not safe to post an email in an open forum

Thanks to desenette for the response--and thanks for info on email address:

I've tried this method of system restore---but always worried about ruining more stuff.
do I do complete system restore?--3 cd's do not say if OE is on them or not--I hate this stuff.
oe is not listed in my add/remove "install/uninstall", but is checked in Windows set-up of add/remove. nothing happens when I try to install using disc 3 of gateway "backup of applications"--possibly just try to read what's on this disc?

Maybe I'm trying to doing wrong thing here--
maybe I should try the mozilla firebird--what is that anyway?

or outlook on MS office--how much is that ----$10 or $100--
I know, nothings as cheap as $10 so maybe I need to pay $1000 for stuff I don't need, use or care about.
Just rambling--thanks for any additional help from desenette or others. I appreciate your help.

Depending what you deleted with OE4 besides the dll file
go to this link
msoe.dll
And download does it work or are there more files missing
the other option is to check what version of Internet explorer you are using
open Internet explorer go to >help> about internet explorer what version are you using
If it is not version 6 go to tools > windows update> install the update for Internet explorer version 6
this should also update youe Outlook express files.
Cheers

1. OE 6?--can I load and use? is it worth it?

Yes, you can use it. I would recommend to disable HTML in Outlook Express and also, configure it to *not* send a return receipt.

2. Outlook--latest program: can I load and use?

Yes. OE and Microsoft Outlook are basically the same. Outlook is more "business usage" as well has a lot more features than regular OE .

3. find a OE 4 to reinstall on computer?--can't find anywhere I've looked but I'm not looking everywhere.

I wouldn't waste my time looking for it. :tazz: HAHA I would use the OE version my Windows ME came with which should be OE 5.0

4. use hotmail via MS?--I just signed up but would like to keep my woh.rr.com e-mail address-maybe I have to bite the bullet and change to something else.

Why not configure your email client (OE) to recieve email under your hotmail account and under the road runner account using outlook express?

5.

Buy new computer with all the latest obsolete stuff on it??---computer companies can be cruel, can't they?

buy new PC because this file "Msoe.dll" is corrupted. I don't think so. Besides the error message, what is the EXACT error number? It should start something like 0x800cccxx

oe is not listed in my add/remove "install/uninstall", but is checked in Windows set-up of add/remove. nothing happens

uncheck outlook express in the add/remove windows components....that will "uninstall" it....then reverse the process

Thanks to all forum repliers: (this is the best forum I've seen on this computer stuff--companies do not want to help me, so good people are here to help us confused people.
I tried a few things but still not connected to OE:
desenette:"uncheck OE in Add/Remove....":
I tried that--OE not in install/uninstall--I unchecked and uninstalled OE in Windows set-up:
I get error message "C:\Progra~1/common/system/wab32.dll-
not installed-may be corrupted"
irongeek:--my original was OE 4 --now listed on my master as OE5--also IE
peterm: I tried loading IE6 a few months a go-and yesterday using those MS window updates--patches??or service packs?-I'm still listed as 5.5--
also msoe.dll--tried to download, got error

I wondered off in other areas---: I still may not have basic connection for OE:
outlook express--main identity:
I show OE5, put in brakeguy47 as 2nd identity--via LAN tried to send receive--get error message of server 0x800ccc90, error 0x800ccc92----will not authorize----this may be the key to my problem!!!
I cannot recieve/send any messges on either identity:
do I have options checks wrong?--it seems I've had problems likje this before my August issue--but still not sure if I'm "hooked up" correctly for this OE stuff--any OE ideas based on this latest trials?
thanks to all!!!

tried to send receive--get error message of server 0x800ccc90,

Then delete BOTH identies and also delete the email accounts (under tools accounts in OE) basically deleted and rebuild them. Also, clear outbox and reboot PC.

Now, if your getting error code '0x800ccc92' which means = POP3_INVALID_PASSWORD call your ISP and double check the password and or update the password for it, or issue you a new one.

If the authorization is incorrect it will not allow you to send email or recieve email.

I tried everyone's suggestions:
last night adjusted/switched too many switches--freezing my RR web mail access, called RR and got all of my stuff fixed by updating OE switches and then getting updated to IE6 and OE6 thru MS download. For some reason it downloaded correctly this time, compared to when I tried to 3 months ago. So all is well now. I thank everyone for your help. Hopefully I don't mess it up again. Merry Christmas!
