I'd change my yahoo password, and then log in, and then it'd kick me out, saying i was logged in from a different machine.
I changed my Yahoo password from other computers and even my T-Mobile Sidekick.
And now a pal of mine logs out, but it still shows him as online.
I wonder if Yahoo is having a lot of problems, and if so, how come nobody knows about it?

Yeah, i'm sitting behind a corporate firewall, so that MAY be the case.
I think that would be the case.

Do you know if this firewall is hardware of software?

I have been having the same issue for a couple of months now - messenger flashes for a second and then just goes back to the login button. The same thing happens w/ version 5, 6, and 7. Were you able to find a resolution?
I have tried both at work and at home with Windows and Symantec firewalls disabled, so I don't think it is being blocked. It occurs when using the 'Firewall' or 'Proxies' settings.
Attempting to logon with the 'No Proxies' or 'No Network Detection' settings it gets the message that it cant reach the network.
Here is an excerpt from the ypager.log file:
On 12/19 15:52:54| Hostname IP:10.10.4.36

Any thoughts?

I suggested that you switch to trillian or miranda IM. if you don't want to do that, the shareware software http-tunnel might be the solution to your problems.
http://www.http-tunn...CFTc4QgodV2JqCA
also, if your administrator hasn't blocked the site, there's a similar free program called your freedom that will let you do the same as http-tunnel but is completely free. some admins know about it and block the site but you might get lucky.
I'd say switch to trillian or miranda. yahoo behind a firewall is a joke.

Thanks for the reply, but I think there is something more seriously wrong with my laptop. I tried all of the above mentioned programs at the office with no result. Now I am at the hotel plugged straight into the internet with no firewall (i think - windows and symantec say they are not enabled)
or proxy and the programs still dont work. Trillian, yahoo, miranda, http-tunnel... nothing. Yahoo is still doing the thing where it blinks and goes back to the login screen.
Http-tunnel gives the message 'Unable to access the internet' All the messengers just hang.
Ipconfig looks ok, I can ping google.com and all the yahoo chat servers. Internet connection works fine, but none of the messenger programs work on this laptop.
Any thoughts on what I could try next? Thanks

I think that would be the case.
I bet this corporate firewall is configured for inbound and outbound security. Monitor all incomming and outgoing packets, programs, applications, and log ALL data.
Do you know if this firewall is hardware of software?
i'm sure it's hardware.
why do you have LOG and DATA bolded?

Very stange maybe try to find an older version of yahoo install that. Once that one is installed update it to the new one.
Edit: Try going here to find an older version.
Thank you Ryan! I went to the site you gave the link to and installed yahoo IM 6.0 (yahoo IM 7.0 is the most recent, it has voice messenger). Problem solved! Yahoo IM connected after I signed in and then the Yahoo Insider window popped up as it use to.
This has been the most incredibly frustrating and mysterious problem. Why version 7.0 would work great for a month or two and then stop working is beyond me. I even used the PC voice messenger and made a call from my PC to a friend's cell and it worked with no problem (at the time). Then suddenly a few days ago, it stopped working.
Yahoo needs to work the bugs out of their new version
