I have a variant of the Cool Web Search Toolbar. My McAfee Anti-Virus freequenty pops up with the note that it has blocked cws.homesearch.com. McAfee (as part of AOL, and I know, I know, I know, but I have a lot of business out on AOL email and it's difficult to rid myself of the address), but it apparently constantly reinstalls itself. Numerous popups note DLL's, etc., will be deleted by McAfee appear. They will disappear for a long time but then come back. I notice it often takes me to some Spyware site and the like. I have run Shredder, CC CLeanUp, Trojan Remover, Ad-Aware, and many others. All find something and attempt to correct it, but again, the issue never goes away. I have tried a few regedit fixes found online, but they either did not work or I did not have the registry entries indicated. Thus, I may have some new variant.
