I spent about 6 hours yesterday working on my computer getting rid of Antivirus Gold :tazz: by the way thanks because I found the information here for removal.

Now yoursystemupdate.com has control of my homepage. I have followed all the steps recommended before posting.

Cleanup

Adaware

CWshredder

SPybot

Ewido

Trend Housecall

Trojan hunter

and finally Windows Update


Still no luck. I would so totally worship the ground walked upon by anyone who could help me. :)

Hello and welcome to Geeks to Go:tazz:

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Download SpyAxeFix.exe © noahdfear, and save it to your desktop.
  • Close all other programs and windows.
  • Double click SpyAxeFix.exe, then click Start to extract the tool to it's own folder.
Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Spyaxe
  • Open the SpyAxeFix folder and double click the SpyAxeFix.bat to start the tool.
  • At one point when the tool runs, your taskbar will dissappear, and your computer will restart when the tool completes.
  • A text file named spyaxe.txt will be created in the SpyAxeFix folder.
  • Post the contents of that log please.Also post the Smitfiles.txt log and a new Hijack log
Reboot and post the logs requested

:tazz: I followed all steps but I am still working on trying to post the reports. Computer keeps freezing. It seems like it freezes anytime I try to click on anything on the desktop. Trying to figure it out :)

Can you post a hijack log or is the computer just freezing.

Try to reboot and see if it behaves better.

I keep rebooting over and over....lol. For some reason it looks like this reboot things are working a little better. Fingers crossed.

lol :tazz: your logs are pretty clean lets get the computer running a little faster.

Anti-Virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

It appears you bought Panda so you will need to uninstall Norton and uninstall Ewido unless you purchased it

Reboot and let me know if that helps then we can finish your cleanup :)

Do this and you should be good to go :)

1. Click Start > Control Panel.

2. Double-click the Java icon (coffee cup) in the control panel. It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon - please find the update button or tab in that Java control panel. Update your Java, and reboot.

After reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java icon.

3. Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.

There are three options on this window to clear the cache - leave ALL 3 checked.
1. Downloaded Applets
2. Downloaded Applications
3. Other Files

4. Click OK on Delete Temporary Files window.
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.

5. Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  • Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
