same thing under Appearance and themes and under pick a task. nothing works in this section. please help...thanks

Before doing a lot of things, try using XP's Restore and restore pc to an earlier date where all was working ok. You may have to re-install any apps you installed after this point. Try this first.

will it tell me what date it will restore the computer to? cuz i have already installed many many programs...its not that important but its just a little irritating when i cant change anything like screen saver, desktop pictures, and...what ever else you can do.

If you haven't a list of all your installed programs, please make one. Restore will let you pick a date you want that should work. Just pick one prior to your problems and see if it cures the current problem. If you used Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to make a copy of your original programs, just compare your list to the list of programs now showing in same program. Restore is very easy to use. Once you have gotten everything working the way you want with all programs installed, run Restore and make a restore point. Choose your own title.
