I have beem plagued lately by what appears to be viruses/adware of several different types all at the same time. I have beed reading your advice on these topics and doing as instructed but have only been able to solve some of the issues. Spyaxe is still here as the pop up windows keep comming and that annoying flashing yellow caution sign. I have attached my htl log. Please help! I have been at this for a week now and am getting extremely frustrated.

Hi Ardant and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

DOWNLOAD PROGRAMS

Download smitRem.exe© by noahdfear and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Download and install CleanUp! Here*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.
We will use this program later.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

THE FIX

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

5. Open HiJack and do a scan.

6. Put a Check next to the following items:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

Right click on the Microsoft/Giant AntiSpyware icon (looks like a target) and click on Security Agents Status (Enabled) and click on Disable Real-time Protection. To re enable it after the fix, you follow the same steps but click on Enable Real-time Protection.

open Hijackthis and do a scan. Please check off the following items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {1ca480cd-c0e5-4548-874e-b85b17905b3a} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp8514.tmp (file missing)

click FIX CHECKED then close Hijackthis

Please remove the following files using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\Documents and Settings\John Richardson\Favorites\Antivirus Test Online.url
C:\tony1.chm
C:\WINDOWS\system32\HPCMDTY.DLL

clean out your recycling bin, reboot, then let me know how everything is running :)
