I know this has to do with firewall settings. i've added the programs (ie Microsofit anti-spyware) to the approved programs under windows xp sp2 built in firewall settings. whether the firewall is turned on or off i still can't connect to any servers. but my browser works fine.

Also i do have zonealarms(deactived)because half the time I run it i get Page cannot be displayed in my browser. any info on this would also be great! Thanks. i hope this is the right forum for these problems

Hi. I run Windows xp pro on two computers, and both have the windows firewall disabled. I choose to run ZoneAlarm because I believe it affords better protection (inbound and outbound control). I never give any program blanket permission to access, I always "allow this time only" I have never had a problem getting my updates (like Windows update or Norton Anti Virus updates) with ZoneAlarm active. I would suspect you don't have ZoneAlarm set up properly? There tutorial is pretty simple to follow.
