It seems this is an increasingly common bug. I've seen a few other posts about it. My PC was originally infected on 12/10/05. Every time I reboot, I get a vertical toolbar with large animated icons "gambling, dating, pharmacy, xxx, spyware, insurance" and one at the bottom for "close".

I tracked some suspect program files to the System32 folder: some program called editrvps, along with idesk, and several bmps that are created by the bug each time my PC boots. I tried deleting manually, in regular and safe mode, but the files regenerate on every reboot. I'm not sure where they are generated from.

I have run a full Norton AV scan, SpyBot, Ad Aware, and CW Shredder with no success. Here's my log.

Thanks!

Hello Buckeye_Sam...

Well, I managed to get rid of the annoying desktop icons, but now I have a problem with Internet Explorer being hjacked by various search engines when I run a Google search. The hijack occurs after the search results are displayed and I click on one of them. Also, I don't know if it's related or not, but I get frequent system freeze when I boot up...it's always explorer that locks up too.

Here's an updated log:

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://forums.subrat...e=post&id=43811
http://swandog46.gee.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [kkhyaha] c:\windows\eawyhxb.exe

Click FIX CHECKED. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log into this topic.

Please follow these steps:
  • Please make sure that you can View Hidden Files
    • Click Start -> My Computer
    • Select Tools -> Folder options
    • Select the View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled.
    • Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked.
    • Make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked
    • Make sure "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" is unchecked
    • For more info on how to show hidden files click here.

  • Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

  • Please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
    • If you have trouble getting into Safe mode go here for more info.

  • Once in Safe mode, delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmoxb.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\kbdcsp10.dll

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode.

Please run Panda Online Virus Scan
  • You must allow the active-x control to run when asked.
  • You may need to disable your antivirus program while this scan runs.
  • There may be files that this scan will not remove.
  • Please include that information in your next post.
  • Make sure to reenable your antivirus program if you disabled it.
Reboot and post a new hijackthis log and the info from your virus scan.
