I thank you in advence for your help. I wasn't able to download any software from the internet to the computer. I kept getting IE forbidden 403 messages. I did run spybot 1.3, AVG, CW shredder, Anti-Malware 3.5. I was unable to run the House Call online or the Microsoft Updates as the IE screen would not communicate. Upon bootup to be able to run the hijack this log, I received the following: Anti-Malware3.5 found recurring startup infection: Spyware Maxifiles File: services.exe Path: C:\Program Files\Common Files. I hit the clean button. The EZ firewall asks if I want to allow MC-110-12-0000080.exe access to internet. This process asks access often. I clicked no. Here is the generated log.Attached File  hijackthis_second_run.txt   10.98KB   101 downloads I did not know what to do with this as I could not access the site to find info. The IE browser crashed.Attached File  hijackthis_second_run.txt   10.98KB   101 downloads And finally the last scan from Anti-Malware.Attached File  Scan_report_20051220.txt.txt   740bytes   128 downloads

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

It is easier on us if you copy and paste the logs directly into your post instead of attaching them, this way we do not have to download a log for each thread we look at.

Support.com - Spyware from SupportSoft provided to manufacturers, such as Sony (Vaio Support Agent) and Toshiba (Virtual Tech), and ISPs, such as Comcast, Cox and Charter (Pipeline Support Agent), that allows them to offer on-line support. This part ensures that software is installed correctly. Regarded as spyware as it has the ability to retrieve user information. I would ask your ISP on how to remove it and why they installed it in the first place. Please do not uninstall the program, since it looks like it is required for your internet connection. This especially applies to those who use SBC as their ISP (Internet Service Provider). If they can't/won't resolve this problem for you, then it's time to switch to another provider that don't embed this spyware in their program. Do not attempt to uninstall the program yourself.

Your log is showing two Antivirus programs running on your system. This can cause slowdowns and crashes on even the most powerful systems. Please uninstall either AVG or Eztrust antivirus before posting your next log.

Viewing Hidden Files
Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

Downloads(make sure to save these in a permanent location)
Download and unzip BFUzip from http://www.merijn.org/files/bfu.zip
Run the program and click the Web button as shown here:
Posted Image

Use this URL to copy into the address bar of the Download script window:
http://downloads.subratam.org/BFUscripts/igetnetfreepod.BFU

Execute the script by clicking the Execute button.

If you have any questions about the use of BFU please read here:

Kevin, Happy New Year to you. Most of the items in your request to remove in the hijack this log were already gone. Good maybe? Anyway, this computer will not allow me to download the activex control to run the panda active scan. I have tried enabling the file downloads and enabling the activex autoprompting in the tools section but still no go even after a reboot. So here is the hijack this log. ALSO NOTED CONTEXT PLUS IS LISTED IN THE ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. I did nothing with it as I have looked at some of the other logs and decided to wait for your input. I also do not think the antivirus or firewall are getting autoupdates. I know that I cannot manually update it. Thanks for your assistance.

Kevin, I was not able to download the apropos fix from the infected computer, but got it from mine and it then did its thing. I still am not able to get these active x controls. I never get the screen to come up.I am getting error on page, even when I customize the controls in the tools section of IE. So still no online scan. Maybe I am doing something incorrectly? So anyway, this is what I have now. Thanks for the help. And sorry about the large text. It seemed small when I pasted. I won't do THAT again. lol

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Downloads(make sure to save these in a permanent location)
WinPFind-Unzip it to the desktop, but do not run it yet
Ewido Security Suite
  • Install Ewido Security Suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Double-click the icon on Desktop to launch Ewido
You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
  • Then click on Start Update.
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido
When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido.

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Tools
Run Ewido with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
  • Click Scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan to begin scanning.
  • Click OK when prompted to clean files
With the first file it prompts to clean, select the option:
  • "Perform action on all infections"
  • Choose clean and click OK.
Once finished, click the Save report button & save the report to your desktop

** This scan may take over an hour, after choosing the action for the first item you do not need to stay at the PC.

Double click WinPFind.exe

* Click 'Start Scan'
* It will scan the entire system, so please be patient!
* Once the scan is complete:
1. Go to the WinPFind folder
2. Locate WinPFind.txt
3. Copy those results in the next post!

Reboot your system in Normal Mode.

In your next post please include:
  • Ewido Log
  • WinPFind.txt
  • A new Hijackthis! Log

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
  • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\pvYoM

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Copy and paste everything form the box below into Notepad. Click File>Save and chang "Save as Type" to All Files. Name it cleanup.reg and save it to your desktop. Double click on it and click Yes when prompted to merge it into your registry.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\Post Platform]
"Hotbar 4.1.1.1164"=-
"iebar"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar]

"{77FBF9B8-1D37-4FF2-9CED-192D8E3ABA6F}"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser]

"{4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C}"=-

Then download Hoster- Unzip it to your desktop.

Open up Hoster
  • Make sure that the "make hosts writable?" button in the upper right corner is enabled.
  • Click back up Host files
  • Click Restore orginal host files
  • Close the program
If you still recieve errors when trying to run the Panda scan, please include as much detail as possible about them.

Online Scans
Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
  • Click Scan your PC & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
  • Click Scan Now
  • Enter your e-mail address & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveX controls
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
  • If it finds any malware, it may ask you to purchase the program, this is not necessary we will take care of the entries manually.
  • At the end of the scan click on see report. Then click Save report
Please post that log in your next reply.

Kevin,
Thank You so much. First, I had no messages come up when I did the Killbox shutdown/reboot. It went smooth. I still had the error saying I did not have access to download active x controls when I went to try to run Panda's Active Scan, but the last fixes got me able to manually download the Java runtime environment and then I was able to run Trend Micro Housecall. I then tried to access Microsoft updates, still got errors there, but was able to download the Microsoft spyware Beta and I ran it. I then went back to try to find the reason I got the error and it gave this code:0x800B0001. I found the remedy and ran their fix. It got me to their update page and I was able to download the security updates. It also allowed me to access the active x control Panda needed to download and so I got the Panda scan completed. Since so much has changed, I thought you would need another Hijack This log too.

Alright those two logs are clean. It sounds like we have worked through a lot of issues that were present.

If you still have issues that need to be resolved please describe with as much detail as possible and we will try to work through them.

If not, let me know and we'll do some final steps before we let you go.

Kevin,

Yes, there have still been some weird shutdowns, but with all the fixes, I was able this morning to download a fresh eTrust EZ Antivirus(Free with her roadrunner service). The first run it found no viruses, but after reboot and running it again it found 8 restore files of the Win32.Propo. It deleted them all. I am running it as I am typing this after my last reboot. I will run it a few more times alternating rebooting. I will post you again tomorrow night. Thanks so much, perhaps we will be entirely clean by the end of the weekend. Have a good night.
