Hi guys,

My first post here on this, what looks like a very good site indeed, so I hope you guys can help me out.

Basically, I get the following message if I click on a subforum of my favourite forum website.



I have done Ad-Aware scan and deleted all the 'Criticals' it gave me and I have run Norton.

Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to the following item and click FIX CHECKED:

Close HiJackThis.

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to log off at the end, if it does go ahead.

Then, please run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log.

Click the "browse" button and locate this file:

Click "Open", then click the "Submit" button. Copy the results and paste them here.

And actually your log has nothing more in it, I assume that you're still receiving the Internet Explorer error?

Open HijackThis.
Click on "Open Misc Tools Section"
Make sure that both boxes beside "Generate StartupList Log" are checked:

List all minor sections(Full)

and

List Empty Sections(Complete)

Click "Generate StartupList Log".
Click "Yes" at the prompt

It will produce a NotePad Page. I need you to copy the entire contents of that page and paste it here.

Also have you tried using a different browser such as FireFox? It only happens at the one forum?

Yes, I have tried a different browser. I tried MSN Explorer and it worked fine. It just doesn't work with IE which is the browser I prefer.
And yes, it only happens on this one forum website, so maybe I thought it was some sort of virus that detects the most frequently visited website and tries to block it by causing this abnormal error.

Have you ever tried FireFox? I also preferred IE and used it for a while until I tried FireFox. I like it a lot better. Since it's only this one site, that's about all I can recommend.

Your system is clean. It's a not a virus causing that error, apparently that web site and IE don't get a long too well (most likely there is something wrong on the site causing this and it's not your IE causing the problem). Since it's the only website that does it, then there isn't really much to do except use a different browser when going to that site.

That's what is called a false positive. It's not actually malware. It is considered "riskware", which means it's legit but can be exploited. If you want to delete it, I would zip it up first incase another of your applications needs it or anything. That way you can put it back if needed.
