My computer was majorly damaged and infested and since my experience with the HP pavillion laptops is that after about a year the hard drive dies, I reformatted, erasing everything and starting over.

Before I reformatted I backed up my C:\ drive on an external hard drive.

Also, before I reformatted, my wireless internet wouldn't work. I thought I'd try my luck with the wireless after I just scrapped everything entirely and put a clean operating system on it. but now I have a shiny new operating system (windows XP) and still no wireless connection.

The laptop is an HP Pavillion ze4300 and is about a year and a half old. I can connect to the internet when I directly connect using an ethernet cable, and the other laptops in my house can connect to our wireless router, but otherwise, the HP isn't picking up signal from the router.

Thank you to anyone who can give me some idea as to what I need to do next with this machine!
