Okay, I really hope somebody can help me soon with this. My computer gets that error message where it says "Explorer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." right when it boots up. My brother somehow got past it and got it so I can get on the internet to ask for help, but I'm afraid of rebooting again. My connection is running incredibly slow, and before the last time I rebooted... I had a red circle with a white X on it, saying my computer was infected with spyware.

I had a lot of weird exe files on it that my brother pointed out to me.. like tool1.exe, tool2.exe etc.. something called paytime and some dhu.exe and winstall.exe. These are only a few of them. I downloaded the hijackthis.. so I'll post a log for you guys and I would really appreciate any assistance I can get.

Let's see about getting your system cleaned up

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:

Don't run it yet!

Next reboot into Safe Mode. You can get there by restarting your computer and continually tapping F8 until a menu appears. Use your arrow to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.


Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.


Run Ewido:

• Click on scanner
• Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
• When it finds the first infected item choose "Clean Now" and put a check next to "Perform action on all infections so that you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time.
• When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
• Save the report to your desktop

Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and go HERE to run ActiveScan.
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of smitfiles.txt and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.

Okay I did all that.. sorry it took so long, I had to wait for my brother to get home so he could reboot it and get past the crash thing at the beginning when I tried to reboot in safe mode. I forgot to mention that my brother deleted a whole bunch of files that were suspicious and were modified around the time my PC crashed - I think he had to do that to get the PC to reboot at all, so some stuff may be gone. The Ad-Aware thing deleted some stuff and, on the bright side, after running ewido I don't have that crash problem anymore.

The smitRem thing didn't save a txt file.. so I dunno, and the Panda online scan didn't find anything, but here's the ewido log and the new Hijackthis log.

You've got a few things we need to get rid of - including a spambot which has been sending spam out from your computer.

There is one file I would like to get a hold of, if you can find it and wouldn't mind submitting it:

Set your system to SHOW HIDDEN FILES

Then please go here:

Click the browse button and navigate to this file, if found:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\msvcp.exe

Click open.

Click the Send File button.

If you can't find the file, it's fine, just let me know

Close HiJackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode and delete the following files, if found, let me know if you don't find them/can't delete any:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\msctl32.dll

Reboot into normal mode and do this for me:

Please Download the following tools to assist us in removing this infection

• Download WinPFind
  • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
  • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
  • Dont do anything with it yet!
• Download Track qoo
  • Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop

Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe

• Click "Start Scan"
• It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
• Once the Scan is Complete
• Go to the WinPFind folder
• Locate WinPFind.txt
• Place those results in the next post!

Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind.
