Hey guys. Like I said, I don't actually know the infection I have, but my computer has just been acting up for a while now, and it won't restart unless I manually restart it. I went through getting rid of the aurora files a few months ago, and maybe I didn't completely remove it.. Anyway, my computer's just been lagging as of late, and I've ran Ad-Aware, CCleaner, my own Norton Internet Security Scan and Spybot Search & Destroy. Maybe you guys see something that was missed... Thanks for any help you can offer. :tazz:

Hi and welcome to Geeks to Go :)

Apologies for the delay in responding to you. The forums are very busy and so are all the helpers, especially over the holiday period.

If you still require assistance, please reply to this topic with a fresh HijackThis log, as if you have any infections they will have most probably changed by now.

If you do not require further assistance, please reply so I can close this topic.

Thanks :tazz:

Hi princess :)

Not too much in your log... lets try cleaning a few things up and see what happens...

Please run HijackThis, perform a scan and place a check against the following items :

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AF556206-3425-CB64-5199-32F1B7AC3FAF} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C0C75B79-D8F5-F2A2-6521-B5D31D8E6A2E} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {EECBEC01-C10B-4858-5C66-ADE046275CC1} - (no file)
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://kl.bar.need2f...earch.html?p=KL
O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} -
O16 - DPF: {D1E7CBDA-E60E-4970-A01C-37301EF7BF98} (Measurement Service Client v.3.4) - http://ccon.futurema...lobal/msc34.cab
O16 - DPF: {D3E33EA6-92BF-444E-9DF3-E7F879F2006F} (TSRFileManagerXControl Control) - http://thesimsresour...ationWizard.cab
O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)
O23 - Service: engbcddxcsqp (elpkazpn6) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\system32\xoveohjp6.exe (file missing)

Then close ALL other windows and browsers and click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis.

Click Start -> Run and then type (or cut and paste) the following :

sc delete elpkazpn6

Then click OK.

Click Start -> Run and then type (or cut and paste) the following :

sc delete engbcddxcsqp

Then click OK.

Now please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
  • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINNT\system32\xoveohjp6.exe

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).
Also let me know if it says the file does not exist, or if the white box remains empty. This means the file does not exist, which is ok :)

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Please run a Panda ActiveScan online virus checker :
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Please post back with the results of the PandaScan and a fresh HijackThis log :tazz:

Also, I did get that notification message when I was running KillBox that said "PendingFileRenameOperations data has been removed by external process". I'm assuming this means it's one of those infections that changes its name once it's detected?

Thanks again for the help =D

Hi Princess :)

I've just spotted something I should've spotted in your first post :)

You are running HijackThis from a temporary directory (or from within a zip file). It is important that you move HijackThis to a permanent folder (such as C:\HJT) as this will mean backups will be kept in case we need to undo some changes. Please do this before continuing.

Okay, lets try a few more things...

Run HijackThis from its new location and perform a scan. Place a check next to the following items :

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AF556206-3425-CB64-5199-32F1B7AC3FAF} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C0C75B79-D8F5-F2A2-6521-B5D31D8E6A2E} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {EECBEC01-C10B-4858-5C66-ADE046275CC1} - (no file)

Then close ALL other windows and browsers and then click Fix Checked then close HijackThis.

Now open KillBox and select Standard File Kill.

One at a time, copy and paste the filenames below into the KillBox Full Path of File to Delete text box. After each, click the delete button which is a red cross with a white circle.

C:\Program Files\Archive\archive.exe
C:\Program Files\WinRAR\WinRAR v3.41 Final Trial to Full by Great Elmo!!.exe
C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\WebP2PInstaller.dll
C:\WINNT\smdat32m.sys
C:\WINNT\system32\P2P Networking v126.cpl
C:\WINNT\system32\xoveohjp6.exe

If you get an error saying the file does not exist then simply move onto the next file. Let me know if you get any other error messages.

Then please restart your computer and reply with a fresh HijackThis log. Also let me know how your computer is running - any further popups or slowness? :tazz:

Yeah, I know :) :) ... I'm working on those right now... in the meantime, how did it go with those KillBox file deletes? Did everything go as planned with no error messages?

Also, you didn't answer my question as to how your computer is now running.

Finally, can you do another Panda online scan and post back with the fresh report please ?

Whilst I'm waiting for that Panda Scan, lets take care of those stubborn HijackThis entries first :tazz:

Download and install Registrar Lite version 2.00
  • Double click the purple Registrar Lite icon on your desktop.
  • Copy the line below and paste it into the "Address" field (located at the top) of the program:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects

  • Click the "Go" button.
  • On the right-hand side it will load all of your BHOs (you'll just see a bunch of numbers)
  • Locate the following entries:
    • {AF556206-3425-CB64-5199-32F1B7AC3FAF}
      {C0C75B79-D8F5-F2A2-6521-B5D31D8E6A2E}
      {EECBEC01-C10B-4858-5C66-ADE046275CC1}
  • Right click on each one and select Properties
  • Click the Permissions Button and a new window will open.
  • Click the Advanced button
  • Place a checkmark next to the following:
'Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects...'
  • Click OK, Ok again and rightclick on each of the following:
    {AF556206-3425-CB64-5199-32F1B7AC3FAF}
    {C0C75B79-D8F5-F2A2-6521-B5D31D8E6A2E}
    {EECBEC01-C10B-4858-5C66-ADE046275CC1}
  • Choose delete.
  • Exit Registrar Lite.
Restart your computer and post a new HiJackThis log.

Sorry about that lapse right there.. I kinda layed down while I was waiting for the panda scan to finish and ended up falling asleep. Gotta love how tired you get when you do both work and school full time, eh? :tazz:. Anyway, here's the scan.

Incident Status Location

Possible Virus. Not disinfected C:\!KillBox\archive.exe
Adware:Adware/P2PNetworking Not disinfected C:\!KillBox\P2P Networking v126.cpl
Adware:Adware/P2PNetworking Not disinfected C:\!KillBox\WebP2PInstaller.dll
Hacktool:HackTool/OptixPatch Not disinfected C:\!KillBox\WinRAR v3.41 Final Trial to Full by Great Elmo!!

My computers is running a little better now, but it still won't restart unless I do it manually. I don't know if that has anything to do with what we're trying to get rid of. I'm gonna work on the hijack this entries now.

No, I've never had a problem with popups, it was just the unusual lagging of my browser and not being able to have my computer restart without manually doing it.

I don't know if you can answer this for me, or if I have to go to a different forum, but ever since I upgraded my memory to be at 1gb, you'd think my computer performance would've been better, but I can barely run say Microsoft Word and Yahoo Messenger without Word freezing up. Would this have anything to do with me only having 17gb out of 150gb of storage left?

If you don't want to answer that's cool, you've been more than generous with your help. Tips would be greatly appreciated :tazz:

Hi princess :tazz:

I can give you some advice on how to speed up the boot of your computer, as you have several items in your automatic startup that may not need to be there.

With 1GB of memory your machine should be fairly fast (depending on processor speed and other hardware). When you added the extra 512Mb, did you ensure it was the correct speed of memory?

The following fixes are optional and it is up to you if you follow thru with them. Fixing these entries will simply stop them from starting every time you use your computer - you will still be able to start them manually from Start -> Programs when you need to use them.

Please run HJT, perform a scan and place a check next the the following items :

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinampAgent] C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DesktopX] "C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\IconX\IconX.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PeerGuardian] C:\Program Files\PeerGuardian2\pg2.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Yahoo! Pager] "C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\ypager.exe" -quiet

Then close ALL other windows and browers and then click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis.

I also notice you are using the StarDock and WindowsBlinds software. Whilst this may add cool affects and visualisations to Windows, it has been known to slow down Windows greatly. If you don't really need these, I would recommend uninstalling them and see if your computer performance improves.

Finally, I notice you are running Norton Antivirus. A good Antivirus is essential to prevent you being infected. If you have paid for Norton then I would recommend you stay with them. However, if you have not, or if you come up for renewal, I would consider looking at other alternative products. The reason for this is that many consider Norton Antivirus to be bloatware - this means that although it does a decent job, it uses a lot of unnecessary system resources which slow your computer. There are lots of good FREE antivirus products such as AVG Free (which I use personally). Note you should only ever have one antivirus products installed at a time, as more than one can actually let more baddies thru.

Let me know if you need any further advice... but until then... here's those prevention tips I promised :

Since your issues have been addressed and you are ready to travel the net again, I will just give you a few ideas on how to stay safe out there. Best of all these programs are all readily available on the net for free :)

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

More info and download is available at:

Spyware Blaster Spyware Guard

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE--Adaware Tutorial

Spybot S&D--Spybot Tutorial

Antiviruses play an important role in keeping your computer safe and worry free while using the net. *NOTE* Only one antivirus must be allowed to run on your computer, as having two or more running can and will cause conflicts.

AVG Avast

Firewalls are also a must in any good prevention :

Zone Alarm Tiny Personal Firewall

There are different browsers available on the net, other than Internet Explorer, we believe!! these are better for security purposes :

Firefox Opera

You must stay on top of your updates at all times, for the above mentioned applications.

It is vitally important to stay on top of your critical updates provided by microsoft.

This can be accessed by going to Windows Updates and following the prompts.

To add to the performance of your computer, i suggest a weekly maintenance program. Run this tool. Ccleaner

Lastly a second opinion on the Antivirus that you have chosen. I suggest running these online virus scans periodically, just to make sure that the av is doing a proper job, of keeping you safe :

Housecall Online Scan Panda Activescan

Housecall Java Online Scan<---For those who use Firefox, or opera.

And finally a little Posted Image How did I get infected in the first place ? (by Mr. Tony Klein)

Good luck and safe surfing :)
