One of my friends has just recently got an unusual type of adaware or spyware in the form of the windows security alerts icon in windows me i have used Spybot S&D and checked the computer for viruses with AVG but found nothing, the problem starts when he runs internet explorer the homepage gets changed to somewhere else the windows security alerts icon appears with a bubble saying that there is a possible spyware infection and to click here to get spyware removal software, once clicked it goes to a page called topadawarereviews.com i tried checking that site on another computer and it doesnt exist, the wallpaper get changed with big words saying that the computer is infected with adaware or spyware and to click here to get spyware removal software, i have not tried hijackthis yet but will. the display properties desktop tab dissapears and the only way to get it back is by editing the registry which i have done several times can anyone tell me if someone has had the same problem so i can fix this.

Hello the time lord...
We need to let the experts look at this log. Please start a new topic in the Malware Forum (link provided below).
Go to the Malware Forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the Start Here.
That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself...then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum. Be patient, the Malware Forum is a very busy place and a two or three day wait is not unusual. DO NOT REPLY TO OR BUMP YOUR OWN LOG. If it shows a reply it may be overlooked as one that is being worked on.
If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
