my computer has just been reloaded.

now i have a problem. my internet will not work. i have installed the wireless card exactly as instructed. and its still not working. when i click to opne the dlink program. a thing will pop up on the screen and flash for about 2 seconds which says driver not load.

have tried almost everything to get it to work. but nothings working.

i have hardwired my computer to the modem to see if it would work. and it still didnt.

before my computer was reloaded all the wireless stuff worked.

the other two computers that we have are working perfectly. so it is definately something wrong with my computer.

any help would be MUCH appreciated. my computer has been down for about a month.

thanks.

Hi sweetnsour1756,
Please make sure that you have actually installed the Wireless Network Adapter. Please right-click on My Computer --> Select Manage --> Select Device Manager --> Is there any warning mark beside Network Adapters? --> Expand Network Adapters by clicking on the [+] and ensure that your Wireless Network Adapter is listed there. If it is not installed properly, then you will need to either install it, or update it's drivers (you will need to insert the CD in order to install it).

i have installed the wireless card exactly as instructed.

Could you please list the steps you took to install it?

Thanks,
Dan.

theres no warning mark by network adapters. i clicked the + and 1394 net adapter is there. im assuming that it is installed correctly.

although. there is a yellow question mark by the other devices tab. everything in that category has a yellow question mark and exclamation point.

the steps to install the dlink card are.

putting the cd in. installing the WPA supplicant for windows xp.
install drivers.
shut down my computer.
insert the wireless card.
when it found new hardware. i clicked to install it automatically. and it couldnt. it searches for an ethernet controller.

Could you please take a screenshot of this, so I can see it? I have a feeling that you haven't actually installed your Wireless Network Adapter as of yet.

i cant get on the internet to post a screenshot or anything from that computer.

i did found out one thing that was wrong. i think i accidently mixed up the installation cds. we have 2 different types of cards. but i think the other cd installs different drivers.

i have now installed the correct cd. but. when i insert my wireless card. the lights on the card will not blink. so i think there may be something wrong with the cardslot. im not sure. but. do you know how i could fix the card slot if that was the problem. i have taken the cardslot thing apart and made sure that it was in my computer correctly and it was. everything is plugged in where it should be and such.

I doubt this is a Hardware issue, simply because everything was working fine before you re-installed windows. I just think that you haven't installed the drivers correctly. Can you please go back to Device Manager, and check to see if you have installed the correct drivers -- you should see the name of your Network Adapter under the Network Adapters heading.. ie: mine is -- Intel® PRO/1000 CT Network Connection -- if you don't see something like that (yours will be different, however it should be similar), then it means you haven't installed the driver properly. Could you please list everything that is under your Network Adapters heading? If you do think that this is a Hardware issue, then you could try posting in the Hardware, Components and Peripherals forum, as they will be able to offer you better advice on this issue.

What is the 'other' devices tab?

the only thing under network adapters is. 1394 net adapter.

there is an "Other Devices" category. under that category is.
pci modem
ethernet controller
multimedia audio controller
video controller (VGA compatible)

all drivers under the "other devices" listed, i am assuming you are seeing this from device manager? All those drivers are not installed correctly. You should not have "other devices" showing up in device manager. I suggest you reinstall the software for all devices listed there. I think if you right click on them you will have an option to install or update driver and you can install the driver for them.

you must reinstall drivers for all these:

there is an "Other Devices" category. under that category is.
pci modem
ethernet controller
multimedia audio controller
video controller (VGA compatible
)

again, in device manager you should never have "other devices"... :tazz:

i right clicked each thing under the other device category, and you can not install them. the only option is to update or uninstall.

and it will not update because i am not connected to the computer.

you will need to physically be on that computer to install the drivers. And just choose "update" for each device and have cd's or driver software to update each device.
