Hello All,

I recently started looking for a video card and through a friend of mine I heard about the EVGA GeForce 6800 ultra 256 AGP card. I have seen his machine run games with no problems what so ever, so I thought, Ok I'll buy one too. Well, it wasn't that easy. When I started looking for one I found that EVGA isn't the only company making a 6800 ultra card. So far I have seen EVGA, BFG, ASUS, and I think I saw a XTX or something also. When looking at the different benchmarks they seemed to be all the same except for the BFG which comes overclocked. NOW THIS IS WHERE IT GOT REALLY INTERESTING! :tazz:

I then saw another video card company claiming to be the better card for gamers. ATI!

So after getting all hyped up about the 6800 ultra now I have to start thinking about the fact that maybe there IS a better card out there for around the same price.

With all that said, I am ready to buy new RAM, a new video card, and probably a new power supply. Now all I need is some great advice about which stuff is most compatible for my needs.

I am a heavy gamer and thats all I am really interested in. Game speed and video quality!

Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz
2 gig DDR ram
MSI 865PE Neo2-V motherboard
Current powersupply- ????

Any and all opinions welcome, I have no favorite manufacturer at this time. Thank you for your time,

They quit making the 6800ultras. The card they make now currently is the 6800gs which is only about 2% slower than a 6800gt would be but the thing is that its only $180-$200 depending on which you get.

Look at the 7800gs.

If you have AGP though as it looks like the fastest you can get would be is a x850XTPE, i dont know if they make the 7800GS in agp they arent out here yet.

Ild maybe want to upgrade the cpu if you are a gamer, there is nothing you can do cheaply about getting rid if the intel chip but you can maybe pick up something a little faster at a good price.

ya they have 7800gs in agp at www.newegg.com

I didnt notice you had agp, quickly skimmed down.

7800gs or the ati x850xt platinum edition is your best bet.

Ummm..........NOOB question here, "unlock some pipes" I'm not sure what that refers too. I know it says it has 16 pipelines right now, are you saying you can some how unlock more?

After reading the comments so far the 7800gs is looking like the way to go. Three manufacturers stuck out to me. EVGA, BFG, and XFX all looked pretty similar, but the BFG comes overclocked and has a lifetime warranty. Thats tough to beat. So unless anyone out there has anything else to add, I think right now I am leaning toward the BFG 7800GS 256. Thanks for all the input so far,

JSLAYER

PS. I just saw the stats on the EVGA GeForce 7800GS OC Superclock and its better than the BFG model ARRRRGGGGG!!!!!!!!
I AM SO CONFUSED!

Evga is good stuff as well as bfg. They both are the top dogs in the video cards. XFX is good aswell. Just pick the evga or bfg, pick which one has the better price to performance ratio and your set.

Ok Thanks Jrm20,

It looks like the EVGA is the way to go. They have the lifetime warranty and the superclocked 7800GS is a little bit better across the board or the same as the BFG 7800GS OC.

Ordering it tonight, hope to have it for the weekend. Thanks again to all who helped,
