when running disk scan it said one or more programs writing on hard drive to close these programs so disk scan could finish faster or something like that

ok...for checkdisk...restart the computer and press f8 to get to the boot type selection screen...choose safemode with command prompt (if available) when the command prompt loads type chkdsk /r

i would try it and see what happens....if you can't defrag or checkdisk from normal windows...then there may be something else going on

it did the scan disk but the defrag kept starting over at four percent i will try again later to see if it will defrag all the way

also..keep in mind...when running defrag from normal mode..you need to make sure all your virus scanners are off and any other real time software...like stock tickers..or chat programs...heck..internet connection in general...any antispyware programs...i usually turn my screen saver off as well (this is probably why it worked in safe mode..because all of these things are off in safe mode)
