Antivirus System Pro hit my wife's desktop Saturday night when she was using IE. She's offline as a result: Only way to do ANYTHING is to CTRL-ALT-DLT and kill the lrblsysguard.exe process. That seems to kill internet access.

Win XP Home, v. 5.1.2600, SP3, build 2600; Dell Inspiron 530s. Intell x86 Family 6 Model 13 Stepping 13 ~1995Mhz; Dell Bios 1.0.12, 3/1/2008; nominal 2Gb memory.

I'm downloading and emailing off my desktop downstairs; carrying program files and log files back and forth between computers on CDs.

Attached to this item are HijackThis "logfile"; (then I ran fenzodahl1512's TheComedian.exe;) then RSIT's "log" and "info"; and then GMER's .txt file; then Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware (which ran updated off a CD AFTER the preceding and only found three items so I didn't fix what it found.)

I had posted on MyAntiSpyware Forum but the resident expert has not responded in a couple of days and has not responded to anyone about Antivirus System Pro since Saturday night.

tell them you are being helped here so that we aren't wasting our time

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

    netsvcs
    msconfig
    safebootminimal
    safebootnetwork
    activex
    drivers32
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    eventlog.dll
    scecli.dll
    netlogon.dll
    cngaudit.dll
    sceclt.dll
    ntelogon.dll
    logevent.dll
    iaStor.sys
    nvstor.sys
    atapi.sys
    IdeChnDr.sys
    viasraid.sys
    AGP440.sys
    vaxscsi.sys
    nvatabus.sys
    viamraid.sys
    nvata.sys
    nvgts.sys
    iastorv.sys
    ViPrt.sys
    eNetHook.dll
    ahcix86.sys
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\Results\Install|LastSuccessTime /rs

  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time

I think I need a "then...." instruction there at the end.

and what if the reboot merely blanks the screen but doesn't seem to be able to restart the system?

OK. I turned off the power and restarted. That rogue file with sysguard in it didn't show up in processes. That's good news. I inserted the filenames as instructed in the custom scan box and ran a scan. I ran a scan that resulted in this (can I restart McAfee now, for all the good it does?) (and yes, i started using thumb drives to carry stuff back and forth, duh):

OK. Looks like we are almost there. You posted your last reply just after I had posted that I had shut off the machine and restarted it when it didn't reboot. Then I ran the second part of your directions and posted the resulting scan in the message above, also. I have now rebooted again, re-enabled McAfee and attempted to go online with IE7. However, that isn't happening. I appear to have a good Comcast connection. So, it's not at all clear what's wrong that IE won't go online. Unfortunately, I don't have any other browser installed on that machine. IE was working fine when this happened.
