Well.. it all started when someone on MSN Messenger sent me a link.. my girlfriend didn't know what it was so she clicked it, then let it pass through my firewall and Nod32
Its named "run.exe" and was hidden completely, I found it and deleted it.. Nod32 constantly poped up with warnings about this thing and website links even though none of my browsers were open. Kerio Personal Firewall also found a lot of incoming and outgoing connections from this run.exe.

I included a log from Hijack This, I'm not sure what to do next, someone help me out here. Also, this is log is from after I found and deleted the run.exe file in my windows/system32 folder

Please disable system restore. The instructions are provided below.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

How to Turn On and Turn Off System Restore in Windows XP
http://support.micro...kb;en-us;310405

You have a worm.

Even though you have antivirus software on your system, it can become corrupted by malware.

Please run a free online virus scan here (tick the "Auto Clean" checkbox):
http://housecall.antivirus.com/ or

http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm

(Please IE to download both)

And a free trojan scan here:

http://tds.diamondcs...p?page=download

download & install the 30 day free trial, update it manually as described here http://tds.diamondcs...php?page=update as the trial version doesn't have auto update enabled

then press scan control & tick all the little boxes in the bottom part of that window, press save configuration and then close that window by pressing the red X in top right corner, then select system testing and select full system scan

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and we'll remove what's left.

Make sure system restore is still off.

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.
Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:
C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exeExit the Task Manager when finished.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows] run.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows] run.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

run.exe

Reboot.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

Good job. :tazz: How is it running?

The following are not necessarily spyware/malware, but we suggest you place a check mark next to the following entries, as these programs may be taking up system resources.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe
(Description: Intel hotkey applet. Unnecessary. Removing this will free up a small amount of system resources.)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msnappau] \"C:\Program Files\MSN Apps\Updater\01.02.3000.1001\en-us\msnappau.exe\"
(Description: MSN Messenger Updater. Not necessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_01\bin\jusched.exe
(Description: Sun Java update scheduler. Checks for updates. Not necessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LXSUPMON] C:\WINDOWS\system32\LXSUPMON.EXE RUN
(Description: Lexmark printer configuration applet. Not necessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)
