Most people are happy when they get a new Car, TV or something that they cherish....... Well, today, I wanted to share something that is special to me, because it will help me in the long run and make me feel better, after dealing with shoulder and back pain for 2 years. I started a thread like this on Besttechie so that I don't have to update 2 threads all the time.

I wanted to share this one with the G2G Team, because, well, this one is special, and I am VERY happy right now. I have been suffering shoulder and back pain for months because of the fact I had been sitting in an older chair that is outlived its usefulness. So, in October or November of 2008, I started the process to get a new chair. I had to go through the prescription process, and the approval process as well.

The approval came on April 11, 2009, and my Chair came TODAY: Here she is, in STOCK Configuation:

(In this configuation, she has on her Stock 24" Pnumatic Mag Wheels and Tires, and a seatbelt, and for my comfort and safety, a JAY Combi P (positioning) Cusion. I also have a Crutch holder mounted on the left side, behind the left Anti Tip tube.)

AND NOW, I will show you her Power Assist Wheels Configuration:

(In this configuation, I have mounted her Frank Mobility Emotion M11 Wheels, and in this configuration, I do NOT have to push as hard as I would have to if I either turned OFF the Emotion Power Wheels, or mounted the Stock Wheels.) I can adjust the sensitivity of the wheels and the some other settings, and all I have to do is tap the rims to stop myself. There are 2 modes - Indoor and Outdoor, with outdoor giving me 2.5 times the response per revolution then if I had it in indoor mode, which gives me 1.5 times the response per revolution. With Therapy and my new chair, the Orthopedist believes that combined with cortozone shots, that I may be able to ride this pain out and get rid of it - but says that if that does NOT work, that I may have to have surgury to relieve pressure in the shoulder by removing a bone to let the tendon relax.

Please Pray for me that this will work - If not, I will have to have the surgury. I don't mind stating that today, I am SO happy that I am almost in TEARS because this thing is so confortable - MAN I love it, and next week the vendor will bring me a few more pieces of the chair that were left at the shop - I am SO happy - I still hurt, but NOT as bad.........Man what a difference :) :) :)

Isn't She Pretty?? man she is a FINE piece of California workmanship :)

Glad to hear you got the new chair in, surgury is never a good thing so I hope your new ride works out for the best :)

Brian, I'm so happy to see things went through and you finally got your new chair! I know how long you've been suffering because of the old one! This is certainly wonderful news, indeed. :)

Nice wheels Brian :) Hopefully with this new chair, the new technology, and the added comfort no surgery will be needed. Good luck and I wish you the best!

I just took her off the charger this morning - This will be the Inaugural ride of my new wheels!! She is fully charged, which is something that did not happen when she was delivered - I feel SO good it isn't funny - I am sitting straight up, and in a few days, I will resume training activities as soon as I let my body get used to the chair - I have alot of people to thank for this, and I just can't believe I have her. I have been instructed on how to maintain her, and change her wheels - In a word, happiness, shock, and AWE......

I want to thank everyone for standing by me while I went through this - It means a lot to me, and I am proud to me a member of such an awesome team of professionals! :) Here's Hoping that I can nix this pain with thereapy - I hate hurting so bad, because it slows me down, but I am glad that I took the downtime, because it helped me to make sure I had what I needed :)

I am PUMPED!! :)

Anybody have any idea what I should nickname her? My old ride was "Big Red"?

Thanks - My chair does alot to correct my posture and my seating postion........and she is more comfortable then my old one, which was breaking down :)

I can't get anything that attaches to the Emotion Wheels. (Picture 2 in my original Post) The wheels come with reflectors standard, but they do not want anything else attached to the spokes, because they have "joysticks" and sensors attached to the rim and these help me control the chair on downslopes and hills. to stop the chair, all I have to do is to tap the rims evenly and at the same time, and the chair will come to a slow, even stop. Sometimes, I have to hold the rims with both hands, because the chair will roll at the slightest touch, so I may have to adject the sensitivity, as well as the length of the footrests, because they scrape the bottom of sidewalks and roads that have potholes and frost heaves.

Hey Excal: What about a Radio, a Light Bar and a .305 engine hehehe :) Being a retired officer yourself, I think it would be cool to outfit my chair that way hehehehe :)

I like the Name "Green Machine" Its Cool :)

.....hmm didn't know you were in a chair....is that something i should have known? oh well

glad you got a better ride than the last one...i used to work in rehab so i know how much of a difference the right chair can make...especially depending on how long you're in it (or if you can get out of it at all)

i got exposed to some REALLY awesome equipment when i was working there...
we actually got to play with one of these for a few hours one day...and we had to test out this awesome power chair for one of our spinal chord patients that liked to hunt...some organization donated it to him...it was a full off road deal with 6 wheels that had Independent suspension on each wheel and an articulated frame that would let it crawl over logs and stuff.....even had a gun rack hehe

......I did not recall in my mind if I had said to anyone that I use a wheelchair, and I may have said it in GeekU, or told my instructors - Members on Besttechie know I use a wheelchair, but I am not sure if I had said this on G2G - If I did NOT, then, yes, I use a wheelchair for aided mobility. I say this, because there are many members that frequent both places, and I may have said it in either place, but I can't remember.

Those chairs are AWESOME - they can go up and down stairs and do a bunch of cool stuff. I don't require that type of chair, and in order for me to get this one, I had to be evaluated by a PT and another couple specialists that deal with equipment, then on to my doctor, who approved this chair 100% - He Knew how bad I ached, and he said "This chair ain't doing squat - I am not foolin' around anymore" as he pointed to my older chair - and he was as serious as he could be, as he sent me a referral to the Otho - Dr. Curchin saved my life when I had bad apendicitis :) - I can't "pull the wool" over my doctor's eyes, nor would I, because my health, safety, comfort and way of life would be affected if I did that, and somehow told him I needed something I did not......

I may use a chair for mobility, but I always try to walk as much as I can, because I may lose it if I do not do this - The chair makes my life easier and safer, and makes me more mobile and independant. I can also take the crutches with me when I go somewhere if I think I would be able to use them safely ;D

I have to kick my brother's BUTT now, because he says my Emotion Power Wheels are "Lazy Man's Wheels" - If I had no use for them, they would not be perscribed - (what he said is not appropriate for public display, so I told him to "Shut UP!") because these wheels have saved me alot of pain during the tests, and I love them - won't go without them again :)

I have to kick my brother's BUTT now, because he says my Emotion Power Wheels are "Lazy Man's Wheels" - If I had no use for them, they would not be perscribed - (what he said is not appropriate for public display, so I told him to "Shut UP!") because these wheels have saved me alot of pain during the tests, and I love them - won't go without them again

tell him to get in the chair and try to go uphill on grass without them
