After following your instructions for removal of System-Defender, which, by the way worked wonderfully, I find I am unable to access my "display" in control panel. I wanted to change my backround, but it will not allow me access. I also find that after infection by this malware, all email (outlook express) is coming in as attachments. Can you help me gain access to my "display" and offer any suggestions on fixing outlook express.

I wish to thank you for the instructions on removal of the malware. You really made the instructions simple enough that even I could follow them.

Hi and sorry for the delay - could I have a fresh look at your system

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

OK for outlook express we shall try a two pronged approach

FIRST

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type msimn /reg and then click OK.
(Note that you will not see anything happen.)

3. In Internet Explorer click Options on the Tools menu.

4. Click the Programs tab and select Outlook Express as the default e-mail client and as the default news client. You can change those later if you wish.

Then retry OE

If that fails then onto method two

@echo off
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll
exit

Next you will need to create the batch fix to do that copy and paste ALL of the above in the quote box to a notepad file.
Then in the text file go to FILE > SAVE AS and in the dropdown box select SAVE AS TYPE to ALL FILES
Then in the FILE NAME box type fix.bat

This will create a batch file Posted Image

Then run fix.bat by double clicking you may see a black box appear this is normal

Unable to access display by right clicking on desktop.

I have failed to mention that the time is displayed in military time, if that makes a difference.
