Hi i am new to the geeks to go thing and im kinda a computer noobie but could you please help me get rid of the Virtum-Gen virus which im guessing is a name for vundo and i am running a vista machine. I am using my dads account because my account is having some issues after this virus in even opening the homepage for mozilla sometimes it can sometimes it can't ie7 had the tab opening problem after contracting this virus and i think after downloading spysweeper the shield stopped the random tab thing. Also i have teatimer off i think for s and d and i have used crap cleaner. also can u let me know whether when doing the things u say should i use my main account or my dad's both are administrators
[edit] forgot to say that each time i log on i end process 5 dll processes should not do that next time
Also Vundofix takes a long time and never detects anything only spysweeper does and i have a trial and am reluctant to pay 24.99 to do this as i know i can trust u people

[Update] Yesterday i had troj\virtu-gen found in spyware with 172 :) bleeping :) cases and 1 case of virtumundo i did a couple of cleans and use multiple programs and now have no virtumundo supposely :) based on spysweeper and 10 cases of virtu-gen did a run of ure suggested anti-malware and if i did it right then 10 minus the 9 anti found and i deleted from quarantine that leaves one hopefully and i know i can count on you guys to get rid of it as i have read through some of the tougher cases

Thanks again,
Aldi07

i guess this is the hjt from my dads account

HI

Your hijackthis log is clean ...

based on spysweeper and 10 cases of virtu-gen did a run of ure suggested anti-malware and if i did it right then 10 minus the 9 anti found and i deleted from quarantine that leaves one hopefully and i know i can count on you guys to get rid of it

What scans have you run apart fron spysweeper ? what's this lingering file you mention ? filename/location ?

Post any logs you have ...

I want you to run some scans, if you've allready run any of these, then post the original reports, not new ones, as only the original will show what was removed.

Please run a Kaspersky Online Scan

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

Click Accept

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky,
Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
    Select My Computer
  • The program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Once finished, save the log to your Desktop as filename KAV.txt

THEN ...

Please Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here :-

http://www.majorgeek...ware_d5756.html

or here :-

http://www.besttechi.../mbam-setup.exe

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply.

THEN ...

Please follow these directions to run Combofix & post a log.

sorry to be such a bother but im 100 percent sure the virus is still there though no longer tabs dont randomly open to blank pages firfox no longer works fast ie7 doesnt run the first time on my main account but then it says error on WLLoginproxy.exe for ie of something like that and then ie7 starts to work after i open it the second time the main account contracted the virus my dads account ie has no errors at all with ie and i havent tryed firefox but im doing the scans as u suggested and will be putting the logs up soon also i no longer have access to yahoo for some reason on firefox which is my main browser it is really slow

well i found a couple more in spysweeper and since its trial i had to go search and delete myself but they were in appdata temp and were all 44 or 45 kb i frgt and were combo of letters and numbers but i couldn't delete 1 as i believe it was in the registry spysweeper said there were 3 subentries of this so i guess that was what i couldn't delete my self and there are stil 2 rundll.exe now [edit] also cqctpmfp.dll keeps comming back no matter how much crap cleaner says it deletes and even i delete from registry it still comes back

Aldi07

ps ill be off to sleep for now i will be back tomorrow

also kav found symlcsv1 in two places in the local temp and windows temp the windows one dissappeared ive heard from other people that this is a trojan downloader also i believe cqctpmfp.dll is a trojan [Edit] i found the real symlcsvc in the symantec shared folder and it is 1.18 mb and only has permissions on my account whereas the one i believe is false the one, symlscv1, is only 60 kb which is much smaller and it has permissions on my dads account to leading my to believe that it is fake ill wait for further direction

i know im being a real bothersome person but i would really really like to get rid of this virus of my laptop so that it works fast again and so that the internet runs smoothly with out ads everywhere

Also please let me know what i should do about the symlcsv1 it says that it is a core component of symantec norton but it is only 60 kb whereas the actual file, named symlcsv1, is 1.18 mb also many sites say that it is malware as the verisign signature that norton uses to prove that its product is real can be easily faked please let me know if i should delete the cqctpmfp.dll and sysmlcsv1

and i have vista is it safe to use combofix?

Thanks

Hi

Yes, I saw the O4 entry ... I may be older than you & my eyesight may not be as good, but I assure you I did see it ... & I can confirm it is vundo related...

We can easily remove the run key & the file, in fact you can delete everything from the C:\Users\Aldo\AppData\Local\Temp folder ... but there may be others which are not shown, that's why I want you to run Combofix ...

Combofix is compatible with Vista, did you read the specific instructions I gave you in my PM ?

RE: sysmlcsv1

these files are both in temp folders...

C:\Users\Aldo\AppData\Local\Temp\symlcsv1.exe
C:\Windows\Temp\symlcsv1.exe

Therefore you can delete them, if they are legit & required by Symantec, (I doubt it) they will be re-downloaded

Quite often legit programs download or unpack files to temp folders before transferring them to their permanent location, why don't you check the files out first ( are they both the same size ?)

upload one or both of them here & post back the results :-

thank you thank you so much steam after running combo fix i just went back onto my main account and firefox and ie7 were running perfect all the pages would load and the high speed internet finally kicked back in instead of slow or no loading times. but the one thing i don't understand is why the virus never affected any account besides aldo with the tabs and slow login. and that little WLLoginProxy.exe has disappeared from bothering me i sure the virus is still existent so i would prefer your help as there are two rundll32.exe's still running unless this is a regular windows process

Hi

I'm glad you computer's back to normal :)

I have a few observations/questions for you ...

Your Combofix log is clean,

Did you empty this folder ? C:\Users\Aldo\AppData\Local\Temp & this one ? C:\Windows\Temp

Did you upload either of those files to virustotal or did you just delete them ?

If you're happy with your computer now, please do this ti uninstall Combofix :-

Go to Start > Run > copy and paste ComboFix /u into the Open: box & press OK

NO that wasn't wrong ... that's fine :)

just wanted to know if you had either of those files scanned before you deleted them ? :)

But it doesn't matter .... if you're OK now ... Happy surfing
