Hello mb250c

Welcome to G2Go. :)
=====================
Please download TFC by Old Timer.
Double-click TFC.exe to run the program.
(If using Vista please Right Click and Choose "Run as Administrator")
Click the Start button.
Please reboot when prompted.
==============================================
Please do a scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
  • The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer
  • This will start the program and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report
  • Now, click on the Save Report as button.
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Thank you for offering your help. I did not fall off the face of the earth.
As I tried to load Kaspersky, I encountered a Java problem; not having the current update/edition. After downloading the current Java , Kaspersky won't recognize it. Back to Java site and click on their test; registers an error - doesn't give it a number. So, for the last few days and nites i have been dealing with that problem. I have searched g2g for appropriate threads and downloaded windows clean-up utility in an attempt to remove and re-install java. After going though removal process, java site indicates current version is installed already when i go there to reinstall and java icon remains in control panel even after removal and re-boot and running disk clean-up. This is getting old. Any suggestions?
P.S. I did run TFC.exe ater loading to a flash drive from another computer.

This is the error info from the Java test site. I don't know how to interpret it or what steps to take from here.

Ok let's try this one instead:

Please click here to download AVP Tool by Kaspersky.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Reboot your computer into SafeMode.

You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.
Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter
    .

  • Double click the setup file to run it.
  • Click Next to continue.
  • It will by default install it to your desktop folder.Click Next.
  • Hit ok at the prompt for scanning in Safe Mode.
  • It will then open a box There will be a tab that says Automatic scan.
  • Under Automatic scan make sure these are checked.

  • System Memory
  • Startup Objects
  • Disk Boot Sectors.
  • My Computer.
  • Also any other drives (Removable that you may have)

After that click on Security level then choose Customize then click on the tab that says Heuristic Analyzer then choose Enable Deep rootkit search then choose ok.
Then choose OK again then you are back to the main screen.

  • Then click on Scan at the to right hand Corner.
  • It will automatically Neutralize any objects found.
  • If some objects are left un-neutralized then click the button that says Neutralize all
  • If it says it cannot be Neutralized then chooose The delete option when prompted.
  • After that is done click on the reports button at the bottom and save it to file name it Kas.
  • Save it somewhere convenient like your desktop and just post only the detected Virus\malware in the report it will be at the very top under Detected post those results in your next reply.

Note: This tool will self uninstall when you close it so please save the log before closing it.

The good news - no threats detected. The bad news - that doesn't simplify the solution. I do have to download to a flashdrive from another computer and upload from there. New windows won't open. (But you probably know that)

Did this problem start happening after an update?
I do not think this is malware related.

Once upon a time - everthing worked fine, then one day the laptop just locked up.
I resorted to reinstalling windows XP and service packs. It seems that my problems are primarily browser related. Other functions seem ok.

  • Double click on OTL to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open one notepad window. OTListIt.Txt a This is saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of this file and post it with your next reply.

Try to upgrade to IE 7 or 8 each link can be found here:
http://www.microsoft...;displaylang=en
or version 8

I have been using IE7 for years, and am now. Once when I attempted to download IE8 after its' release(not beta), it referred to an error and wouldn't run. Also, I have noticed a fair amount of issues being discussed in various forums re IE8 and figured I would stick with 7. I also used firefox without any problems. Now, after reinstalling XP and SPs,
I can not run firefox. As for IE7,I can open my homepage, which is MSN and open hotmail, and all emails. In order to move about though, I have to start with an entry in search (now Bing), such as "geeks to go", and when that is displayed, I can click on that and move about the site. I can open favorites, but not click on one and have it open. I cannot enter a url in the http://www window and have it open. What happens is, that once another page tries to load, the screen just stays white. The open window is still open in the background, and will sometimes again display when I close the white window. The white page does have the MSN blue bar at the top with the minimize and the x. More often than not, in closing the white window, I will get the " program not responding window" and have to close IE completely and start over.

So did you do a repair install or did you wipe the drive clean and do a full reinstall?
Repair would keep your documents and files a full would remove everything.

Try doing this:
