Please help. My computer seems to be infected with several spyware and trojans. 2 days ago I started seeing pop-ups and ad-aware, spy-bot and McAfee Virus are picking up tons of items. Some of them are abbetterinternet, ceres, apropos. I can't remember them all. The virus scan has also picked up several trojans during the past 2 days. All of the programs are unable to fix the problem, saying that the files are write-protected. The files just keep multiplying. As I am writing this, I have received 3 messages from McAfee about trojans downloading. I have tried all of the solutions listed on your site. I was unable to run Ewido because of the version of windows that I have. I would greatly appreciate your help. I will be attaching a copy of my hijackthis.log.

Hi Excal,
Thank you so much for your help. I've posted a new hijackthis log below. My system is running VERY slow and virus / adware scans take about 6 hours and are unable to fix anything. One other thing, I'm not very computer literate, so if I'm doing this wrong, let me know.

Hi CMDMOM,

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

I noticed that your HiJackthis.exe is located on your desktop, make sure to save HijackThis in its own folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This is very important, so HiJackThis can save backups!

How to make a permanent folder:

Click "My Computer", then "C:\" and then on "Program Files".
In the menu bar, "File"->"New"->"Folder".
That will create a folder named "New Folder", which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have "C:\Program Files\HijackThis". Put your HijackThis.exe there.



DOWNLOAD PROGRAMS

Download and install CleanUp! Here*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.
We will use this program later.


THE FIX

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

5. Open HiJack and do a scan.

6. Put a Check next to the following items:

7. click the Fix Checked box

8. Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

WinTools

9. Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools

10. Please remove just the files from the following paths using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VFW228_8.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\RHALMH.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VBSOBJ.EXE
c:\windows\system\cetiujmd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\rhalmh.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SUPDATE.DLL
E6F1873B.DLL <=====Start>search to find this one
D9EBC318C <=====Start>search to find this one
nrau.exe <=====Start>search to find this one

11. Run the program CleanUp!

12. Reboot into normal mode and please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

13. Download the attached file I have uploaded to this post called Trackqoo.zip. Unzip it to your desktop and double click on Track qoo 1.vbs. If you antivirus, or spyware programs asks you about a script running, allow it please. Copy and paste in a reply.

14. Please post the Active scan log, Trackqoo log and a fresh HiJackThis log. Let me know how your computer is running.

Hi Excal,

I'm still working on removing the files you listed, but I have a question. (I'm using my son's computer, so I haven't gone back online with the infected one)

When I do a search of D9EBC318C, the only results I get are in a USER.DAT file and a Backup file. A search of nrau.exe only appears in a Backup file. Should I delete any of these?

I am not sure where they are located, but they need to be deleted. Whats the entire path?

The backup file is located in C:\Windows\Desktop\Backups.

The Dat file is located in C:\Windows\User.Dat

Hi Excal,

Well I removed all the files that you specified and I ran the Cleanup program, but when I tried to reboot into normal mode I received the message: Invalid System Disk replace the disk then press any key. I've tried to reboot several times, but I keep getting the same message. Is there anyway around this?

No, as soon as it starts to boot, I receive the error message. I checked all of the drives to make sure that a disk hadn't been left in.

Any ideas?

What exactly did you delete? I know were looking for this file D9EBC318C. I am trying to figure out how that is related to C:\Windows\User.Dat. Now from reading what you wrote, it appeared that D9EBC318C was a file off of user.dat. Did oyu delete the user.dat file?

Do you have a flopy drive in that computer?

Yes, I deleted User.Dat.

Yes, there is a floppy drive in this computer.

Ok, this isn't a good thing, but lets see if we can fix it.

http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Can you go to that web site and make a boot disc for your infected computer please.

Then try to boot up with that disc to DOS.
