explorer.exe is running at 99% [RESOLVED]

Hi there, I have a problem with my computer it is unbelievably slow right now. I have tried every single one of the steps in the "you must read this before posting a hijak this thread" But my computer is still performing at a much lower rate than usual. Explorer.exe consistantly uses 99% of my c.p.u. everytime i check the processes that are running. Furthermore after installing Ewido I have the same pop up every time I turn on the computer and about once every half hour warning me of an infected file named: mfcplay.dll spyware.virtumonde
and everytime i click the clean button the pop up always returns.

using trojan hunter and a few of the other programs got rid of several malware however my computer is still running very slowly. Hopefully you guys can give me hand with this problem, thanks in advance =)

Before we can get started on fixing your problem you must change the location of Hijackthis. It should not run directly from your desktop or a temp directory. Please create a directory on your c: drive called c:\hijackthis and download and unzip hijackthis into that directory. Run the program from that directory from now on. It is essential that you follow these steps or certain important features of the program will not function correctly.

Once you have Hijackthis running from a permanent folder, please reboot and post a new hijackthis log.

Hey Sam thanks for replying. Recently I have been agressively running all the antispyware programs and my explorer problem seems to have gone away; however, I do not know if there are still some spyware lingering around but i did what you said and here is the new Hijackthis log:

It looks like it may be partially gone, but let's run through the fix just to be sure. :tazz:

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

C:\WINDOWS\java\trustlib\yalpcfm.*
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\java\trustlib\mfcplay.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: mfcplay - C:\WINDOWS\java\trustlib\mfcplay.dll (file missing)
After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Hi,

I'm having some problems running the Vundofix. The first filepath works fine: however, when I type in the second filepath it cant seem to find the file -->

C:\WINDOWS\java\trustlib\yalpcfm.*

I tried typing it in without the "period" and without the "star" but it still doesn't seem to work.

That's ok, it's actually a very good sign in this case.

Just proceed with the rest of the steps and post the logs. Then we'll be able to see for sure if anything is still there.

hey, Well I ran hijackthis again and was able to delete O20 - Winlogon Notify: mfcplay - C:\WINDOWS\java\trustlib\mfcplay.dll (file missing)

hopefully thats another good sign as well?

I deleted that file and then ran clean up like you said as well as ActiveScan.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point left over from what we have just cleaned.

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above
Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
- From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
- Click once on the Security tab
- Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
- Click once on the Custom Level button.
  - Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
  - Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
  - Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
  - Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
  - Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
  - Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt

Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

I just have a few questions i was looking at the Hijackthis log and was wondering if this --> O16 - DPF: {88D758A3-D33B-45FD-91E3-67749B4057FA} (Sinstaller Class) - http://dm.screensave.../sinstaller.cab
is a concern? because i dont use the screensavers.com software anymore and i've heard the software itself tends to carry spyware?

also I now have a lot of antispyware programs running in the background at the same time and was wondering if they were all necesary or if I called delete some or just keep it the way it is?

Currently I have: Spybot SD resident, Norton Internet Security, Norton Anti-virus, Ewido secuirty suite, Microsoft antispyware and Trojan hunter guard ALL running at the same time :tazz:

I wonder if that is necessary? are some programs redundant and possibly i can delete them?

Yes, you can remove that and any 016 line that you do not recognize. None of them are definitively malicious, but any 016 line in your hijackthis log should be considered optional to remove as the active-x control will be automatically reinstalled if you need it again.

Yes, it can drain your computer's resources to run them all at the same time in the background and it's not necessary. It's ok to keep them all, but just don't have them all running at startup for real time protection. I would recommend keeping Microsoft Antispyware running real time protection and just running Ewido, Trojan Hunter, and Spybot manually as needed.
