Hello,

It's better to print out the next instructions or save it in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

* Download and install CCleaner
Do not use it yet.

Download CWShredder. Start CWShredder and click FIX

* Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)
°To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them if still present:

C:\Program
C:\WINDOWS\System32\upnpdrv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\phqghum.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svcnt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\wkssvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mousehs.exe

Go to start > run and type:

sc delete "Microsoft Locator Service" click OK
sc delete "mousehs" click OK
sc delete "NetDDEclnt" click OK
sc delete "upnpdrv" click OK

* Still in safe mode Run Ccleaner and click Run Cleaner (bottom right)

Go to start > control panel > Display properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop... > Web tab > uncheck and delete everything you find in there. (except for "My current home page")

* Reboot your system back to normal mode.

* Perform an onlinescan with Bitdefender and/or Housecall (check here autodelete) and let it delete everything it is finding.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and I'll take another look.

If you had any problems with deleting files or noticed any other problems during your fix, let me also know in your next reply.

Well I still have the problem.

Couldn't delete C:\Program

Couldn't delete C:\System32\upnpdrv.exe

And I couldn't do anything with Start > Run during Safe Mode because my computer just freezes everytime I try to type something in Safe Mode.

Couldn't find Desktop in Display Properties

And couldn't run Bitdefender because Internet Explorer doesn't work at all

Ok, let's try this a littlebit different now..

*Go to start >run and type: services.msc and click OK
Scroll down in that list until you find the service Workstation Service Library
Doubleclick on it. In the window that will appear, click on "Stop" (if not greyed out) and change the Startup Type to disabled.
Click apply and OK and close all open windows.

Do the same for the following in services.msc:

AOL Instant Messanger
Workstation Service Library
Mouse Hardware Sync
Network DDE Client
Universal Plug and Play device driver

Try to delete next again:

C:\Program
C:\WINDOWS\System32\upnpdrv.exe

If that doesn't work, perform next step:

* Download Killbox.
Unzip it and Click killbox.exe.
Select the option "Delete on reboot".

Now copy the next bold:

C:\Program
C:\WINDOWS\System32\upnpdrv.exe

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard

Now you will see, this is pasted in the "Full Path of File to Delete"-field.
There's a little arrow (dropdown-arrow) next to that field.
If you expand it, these lines must be there together if the files are present!

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot.. Click YES
When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you don't get that message, reboot manually.
Click No at the Pending Operations prompt.

Your computer must reboot now.

After reboot, perform next steps again:

Go to start > run and type:

sc delete "Microsoft Locator Service" click OK
sc delete "mousehs" click OK
sc delete "NetDDEclnt" click OK
sc delete "upnpdrv" click OK
sc delete "AIM" click OK

We also need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

* Download http://metallica.gee...m/smitfraud.reg and save it on your desktop
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to add the content to the registry, click yes/ok.

Check and fix next lines in hijackthis:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdocsv.dll/API32.htm#ID=347;065D
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://shdocsv.dll/asst.htm

Reboot and post a new hijackthislog.

Also, i asked you to perform an online virusscan, you haven't done that. This is really important!!

Do you get an error?

Are you using another browser like firefox now?
If not, try to install another browser in a meanwhile:

Well I tried to Run services.msc but I get this message and I get it with some other things including when I try to open SBC Yahoo Browser which I need fixed.

"Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly."

You know how to correct this?

Everything else seemed to have gone okay.

Hmm. I just did all of this and it fixed the desktop problem. :tazz:

But I am still unable to open SBC Yahoo Browser.

It is still giving me the ActiveX runaround. Right now I am in the middle of running HouseCall. When I finish that I will post a new log.

I suppose you are using firefox now? Firefox doesn't support ActiveX, that's why you're getting that error. However, you can install an activeX-plugin for Firefox: http://www.iol.ie/~l...in.htm#download
But I suggest you use firefox without ActiveX-plugins, that makes browsing a lot safer.
If you want to use SBC Yahoo Browser, you need to open it with IE.
But I suggest you update to SP2 first, because you really need it and this will hopefully also restore damaged or corrupted items in your IE.

My Internet Explorer won't open. It gives me a message saying it can't fine it. I have tried re-installing it but it still doesn't work.

Hmmm.. it seems like something is stubborn there and something new is also present now. Normally you must see a red icon in your taskbar. That is a false alert it is giving you, so we'll need to take care of that also.

Another question now, did you disable your microsoft antispyware as I asked you before? Because it prevents a line in hijackthis being fixed.

So please follow next steps again:

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdocsv.dll/API32.htm#ID=347;065D

Good, now we are getting somewhere..

Check and fix next in hijackthis again:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html

Then, go to start > run and type:

sc stop "upnpdrv" click OK
sc delete "upnpdrv" click Ok

Reboot once more and post a new hijackthislog.

Extra question... Did you already tried this to repair your Internet Explorer?
