Hello TrEzNoR and Welcome to Geeks to Go!

My name is Joe and I will be helping you today. Sorry for the delay in response. As you can see, the forums are rather busy. Please be patient as I am still in training and all my posts are reviewed by our Expert Instructors prior to posting. With this in mind, there may be a little delay between posts.

Please give me a little bit to look over your log. I will post back some instructions as soon as possible.

Hello TrEzNoR,

After looking at your log, it appears to be in pretty good shape. There are a few items that we need to take care of but overall your clean. We will go ahead and do a few things to help clean you up and see if we can get your system running a little faster than before.

Step 1

Please turn off or disable following program before running your preliminary scans and for the duration of your HJT cleanup. To do disable this program, please follow the instructions provided in the sections. After we complete your fix you should reactivate your program.

Windows Defender
Click on "Tools"
Click on "General Settings"
Scroll down to "Real-time protection options"
Uncheck "Turn on Real-time protection (recommended)"
Click "Save"

Step 2

You need to update your Java to the newest version which is Version 11.

Updating Java and Clearing Cache
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
  • It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
  • If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
  • After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
  • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 CheckedDownloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window

Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.
Step 3

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O2 - BHO: SWEETIE - {1A0AADCD-3A72-4b5f-900F-E3BB5A838E2A} - C:\PROGRA~1\MACROG~1\SWEETI~1\toolbar.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SweetIM] C:\Program Files\Macrogaming\SweetIM\SweetIM.exe - This item is OPTIONAL. The purpose of SweetIM is for you to be able to send fancier smiley-faces and IM graphics to friends who are using MSN Messenger. BUT - they are only able to see these advanced smiley-faces if they also have SweetIM installed. My advice would be to uninstall the program, unless you really really love what SweetIM and has to offer in it's software. It is better to err on the side of caution in this instance.
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_09\bin\ssv.dll
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_09\bin\ssv.dll

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

SweetIM
JSE2 Runtime Environment 5.0 Update (version #)

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):

C:\Program Files\Macrogaming\SweetIM

After that, Reboot.

Step 4

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

When you have completed the above please post back here with the following:
New HJT log
Status of how your computer is doing now
Thanks.

Here's the HJT log you requested. I did everything but I couldn't find
JSE2 Runtime Environment 5.0 Update (version #). I also just noticed firefox looks different, like all the borders are missing.

Hi TrEzNoR,

Don't worry about not being able to find that one program. As for the Firefox problem, try hitting F11 and see what happens? If that isn't what you are referring to, please describe the problem a little bit more in detail about the border thing please.

Please tell me how your computer is running now after we have made those fixes. Other than the FF problem, are you having any more issues with your computer?

thanks,

Jrenter2

Well the border thing is only for this site. there are no borders around anything on this site, this page is all white and some of the stuff around the page is relocated, not too much relocated. After those fixes it made my computer run alot faster. the only problem is the look of geekstogo site, all other sites seem to work fine and load much faster.

Hi TrEzNoR,

Congratulations! Your log is clean. :whistling: As for your other problem, please go here and post a message regarding the border issue. This doesn't seem to be malware related. The Experts in this forum will be better suited to help you with this. Just let them know about what you have done thus far in this forum and reference this link if needed. Let's just do one more thing here. Let's clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]System Restore will now be active again.

The following is a list of tools and utilities Firewalls, Antivirus, AntiMalware etc..that I like to suggest to people. They are free for personal use and VERY recommended. It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. They will not only help from future potential hazards, but also instruct you on how you got infected in the first place and what you can do to prevent it from happening again.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • Sygate Personal Firewall
  • Kerio Personal Firewall
  • ZoneAlarm
  • AVG Anti-Virus
  • Avast Home Edition
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  • Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein

Good luck with everything and thank you for using Geeks To Go. If you have any other questions or comments, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks,

Joe
