Hi,
I seem to have gotten rid of the TrojanElitebar problems after following all of your suggestions in the "start here" area, but now the defragment program won't remove a bunch of fragmented files. Any ideas?

You still have a number of infections there..between your two logs, I noticed some startup items have disappeared..if you scanned with one of the cleaning programs and it removed them, that's fine..but if you have any items disabled from startup I need to see a log with everything enabled..

Please download Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and the VX2 Cleaner Plug-in. Install Ad-Aware using the default options, then install vx2cleaner_inst.exe, taking all the defaults there as well.

Run Ad-Aware, update to the latest definitions, then click on Add-ons in the lefthand column. Select VX2 Cleaner V2.0 and click Run Tool. Click "OK", then, if something is found, click "Clean" as in the directions given. Click "Close", and exit Ad-Aware.

Reboot your PC and run Ad-Aware again. This time, click on the Start button in Ad-Aware, select "Perform smart system scan" and click Next. Once the scan finishes, click "Next" again. Select all objects found (right click anywhere in the list of found objects and click "Select All Objects"). Click "Next" one more time, then "OK" to confirm the removal.

You will be prompted to set Ad-Aware to run on reboot, click "OK". Exit Ad-Aware and restart your PC once again.

When Ad-Aware starts up, click on "Start", then "Next". Follow the steps above if anything is found, or click "Finish", then exit Ad-Aware.

After that, please post a new HijackThis log.

I had used Tune-up Utilities to remove or dis-able the start-up programs you were referring to so I went ahead and restored that back-up file which re-enabled those programs.

Next, I installed the plug-in for Ad-aware (Ad-Aware was already installed at Keith's suggestion ) and followed your instructions.

Since doing everything, I now have a new problem; when I click on the Start button for windows, the system stalls and won't allow me to open "My Computer". I finally found an alternate route to get into my Hijack This folder but thought I would let you know.

Thanks for offering to help and I look forward to receiving your suggestions.

Ok, let's clean the leftovers. The items you had disabled, there were only three items that came as new compard to your previous log. None of them are malware, but you can safely get rid of them using HijackThis..none of them are necessary items..I put a sidenote next to them explaining what they are..

Open HijackThis and click Scan. Put a check next to these:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{5D60FF48-95BE-4956-B4C6-6BB168A70310} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: Band Class - {00F1D395-4744-40f0-A611-980F61AE2C59} - blank (file missing)
O2 - BHO: BestOffers Shopping BHO - {F5DE8ADB-4A69-4e56-96AB-823171C8E9D8} - blank (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: BestOffers Shopping v1.20 - {7FD44536-9DF0-4034-939F-5BD4D98E3187} - blank (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install
Associated with the newer versions of nVidia graphics cards drivers. Allows you to immensely improve desktop layouts by setting preferences and optimizations. However, this isn't necessary for the operation of your system
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [C-Media Mixer] Mixer.exe /startup C-Media produce audio chipsets that are often found on popular motherboards with on-board audio. Provides System Tray access to change audio settings. Available via Start -> Settings -> Control Panel or Start -> Programs
O4 - Global Startup: Forget Me Not.lnk = C:\Program Files\Broderbund\AG CreataCard\AGRemind.exe Calendar reminder part of American Greetings® CreataCard®
O16 - DPF: {205FF73B-CA67-11D5-99DD-444553540013} (CInstall Class) - http://adserver.shar...ver/Install.cab

Close all other windows except HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Go here to make an online scan:

http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.htm

- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Then please reboot and post a new HijackThis log along with Panda results. Do you have any problems left now?

Your HijackThis log looks clean.. :tazz:

Reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files:
Click Start. Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab.

Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

Then delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ezPopStub.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\PreUninstallQL.exe
C:\WINDOWS\inf\conscorr.inf
C:\WINDOWS\inf\satmat.inf
C:\WINDOWS\inf\mmaker2.inf
C:\WINDOWS\inf\multimpp.inf
C:\WINDOWS\satmat.ini
C:\WINDOWS\GatorPatch.log

When done, change back the file view settings.

I can't comment on the defragmenting issue as it is completely beyond my knowledge..I suggest that you make a post on Windows forums (tell them that you got a clean bill from Malware Removal) and the staff there would be able to help you on that issue hopefully..

Now let's reset your restore points.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please take the following into consideration to maintain a clean computer.

Now you should go get a firewall. Don't rely on the Windows firewall as it monitors only incoming traffic. Pick one of these, they are all free.
Kerio
Zonealarm
Sygate

I'll also recommend you to install a monitoring software which will monitor certain areas on your computer and will place alerts when those are being modified. One such software I'll recommend is Prevx, but it's for advanced users as the messages it displays can be hard to decipher. One other similar but more user friendly software is Winpatrol. Both are free programs.
Winpatrol
Prevx

Visit Windows Update regularly to get the latest security updates. You can also enable automatic updates.Your antivirus software and antispyware programs should also be updated regularly. Make a habit of running scans on a timely basis. Be careful about what you download, scan every file before clicking on it.

Additional programs to consider:

Spywareblaster Prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.Blocks spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.Restricts the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.
IE/Spyad
Adds a list of malicious sites to your Restricted Sites Zone.
Firefox An alternate browser safer than IE

A good article to read:
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Regards,

Armodeluxe
