Yesterday, I turned on the PC and instead of getting a single beep, initializing monitor and post, the fans ran, there was never a beep and the monitor stayed dark like the computer was never turned on. I pressed the reset button on the PC, and the PC warm booted without problem. This problem is intermittant. Sometimes the PC cold boots fine. I had this problem months ago. I reseated all the cards to no avail. I reinstalled Windows, and this seemed to fix the problem. I recently reinstalled windows again, and the system was running fine until yesterday. The system seems fine once it has booted properly, but this strange case of no post on cold boot has returned.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening? Any ideas on how to correct this without having to resinstall windows would be much appreciated.

There could be many things to cause this. Perhaps the memory is not getting a good connection when the puter is cold. It could also be that the button you use to turn on the puter is going bad. I keep a extra switch to check on this. I just plug the connector in after disconnecting the computers switch and leave the switch inside the case when im testing. A flaky power supply could also be causing this but its not likely. I think this is a hardware problem because it is the motherboard that controls the computer hardware until windows boots up. Windows does not control the computer starting up at all.
