I'm getting this error upon bootup, it happend after I installed the newest forceware drivers, so I thought those were bad, uninstalledand rebooted (with no video drivers installed) didn't get the error, anyway, its really bugging me and it does the system shutdown after I click close on the error, quite annoying, anyway the file it saying it has problems/conflicts with stores in my temp dir, I can delete the folder and it comes right back upon rebooting, anyone know any ideas to fix this? here's the actual error msg as justr posting services and controller app doesn't describe it well enough.

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
  • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\taskmgr.exe
  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Go to Start > Run and type Services.msc then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the below service:

TskHlp

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, under the General tab click the Stop button, then click the drop-down box to change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.

Open HiJackThis, click on None of the above, just start the program. Now, click on the Config button (bottom right), click on Misc Tools, then click on Delete an NT Service. A window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (make sure there are NO spaces before or after the name):

TskHlp

Click OK.

It should pull up information about the service, then ask if you want to reboot. Click YES.

Post a new HiJackThis log after it reboots and let me know if you received any error messages.

Regards,
Matt

I tried those steps as well, it's not working, it will create a new folder with a different file in it each boot.

hmm, retrying to killbox solution, already stopped the service, and I did get the pending prompt.

Well, I tried it, but yet, I continue to get the error on bootup, looks like a format is on the horizon.

This doesn't appear to be a malware issue. This topic is probably better suited in the Windows XP forum. As a result, I am closing this topic. Feel free to start a new topic in the Windows XP forum. Make sure you let the techs there know that you went through the malware forum first.

Regards,
Matt
