my laptop stops its charge

every time i plug in my AC adapter, the light on the adapter goes off about 20 secs after i start the computer, and it stops charging. the chord and adapter are fine. there must be something wrong with the power system or something but i have no idea what it is. anybody experience this problem before?

Did you install any new hardware in your computer?
Try connecting it to different out let. Still if you have same issue. Try changing the adapter and check.
