Is my super slow browsing speed down to a failed network attempt?

Hi

Over the past couple of months, our main PC has been really slow when browsing. At first, I thought it was due to dodgy settings and had these checked via our ISP (TalkTalk) help desk.
Nothing improved and I began to suspect some form of malware. Over the last few days, Hammerman has been helping to check the PC and is confident that there are no issues there (see thread "Google redirect + other stuff, Help Please.....Web pages taking an age to open")
http://www.geekstogo...ff-t271839.html

Our laptop, which is connected wirelessly, is lightning fast by comparrison and it has struck me that the problems may have started after I tried to set up a network between the laptop (Windows 7) and the main PC (XP).
After much messing about, I gave up on the networking (I hadn't heard about you folks then)because the laptop couldn't see the PC and I just got stuck, fed up and disallusioned!!!!!.......so I gave up.

Is it possible that the problem I have now may have something to do with networking?
On one of the scans that I ran for Hammerman, this message appeared.....

Error - 20/03/2010 11:01:58 | Computer Name = MAINPC | Source = MRxSmb | ID = 8003
Description = The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer
OWENS-LAPTOP that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport
NetBT_Tcpip_{6286ACC3-C698-4. The master browser is stopping or an election is being
forced.

Any help will be gratefully received

Thanks

Uncheck the first checkbox... Automatically search for network folders and printers.
Click OK and restart your PC...

I have now enabled the Netbios.
The TCP/IP NetBIOS helper service was switched to automatic.
I have rebooted but there is no improvement, unfortunately.

Hi

I am based in the UK so picked New York & LA.
The PC was really weird on the LA test. It did nothing for 30 secs then ran at about 1210 then right in the last few seconds spiked at 22256. I ran the test a number of times there and at San Francisco I have included the time that the test took to run for both the PC & the laptop (with the PC taking significantly longer).
