too many programs

I am trying to free up my memmory and or programs. I've tried to look on the internet to see what these programs are used for and if thier necessary. I was hoping someone could tell me if these programs are necessary for my computer to run correctly and if it is safe to uninstall them.
In my add and remove section in the control panel it says I rarely use them and haven't used them since march ( probably the day they were installed).
Also I have uninstalled monopoly tycoon and monopoly vegas games but thier names are still in my add and remove programs but they won't go away, like theres no files but its still there. How do I get them off my computer?
Here is a list of some of the programs in question:
Adobe acrobat 4.0/adobe reader 7.0.8/backweb/ehelp/intervideo win dvd/java 2 runtime enviroment,se v1.4.2_03/microsoft.net framework 2.0/microsoft intellipoint 5.5/microsoft money 2001/python1.5combined win32 extensions/python 1.5.2 (final)/quicklink 111/trellix web
I don't do anything special with my computer, no network or buisness use at all. It is for web brousing, playing poker, music and such.
Can I get rid of some of these? will it free up memmory or speed up my computer? I just don't have a $100 or so for more ram at this time!

you better go to the malware forum it sounds like your infected if you can't uninstall or remove them from add/remove programs

your reply did nothing for my situation! did you not see the list of programs I wrote down? If your not really going to help, please don't reply, it stops someone from actually helping me with the realproblem!

George,
The programs you listed all appear to be ones you can safely remove. This will depend on your particular situation. You could google any of the programs and then make the final decision based on your need for the functionality the program offers. Will it free up memory, no it will not. It will free up some hard drive space but not neccessarily memory.

As for the programs you removed, if you simply deleted them then they will remain in the Add/Remove section. You could try and reinstall them and then use Add/Remove to uninstall. If that is how you originally uninstalled them, then the uninstall did not complete successfully (obviously). There is a registry hack to remove them manually, but I do not recall what it is at this time. I will search for it or maybe someone will find it first.

I also forgot to mention that rushin1nd's advice about going to the malware forum is accurate and would result in some additional tips or steps to make sure your system is truly clean.

I tried the malware removal but it did nothing to get rid of the monopoly casino and tycoon. But I just don't know what the intellipoint 5.5 is for, or the python 1.5 combined win32 extensions or the python 1.5.2 ( final) or the trellix web.
Are you sure I can safely remove them? I just don't see a reason to keep them if I'm not using tmem?
But thank you for adressing the actual problem.

Let us look at this another way, maybe you need a program but you don't like that program to be running all the time, that would be start ups in msconfig, here are some other ideas too.

Intellipoint is driver software for your mouse. It gives you some added features but is not needed. Python is a programming language similar to Java and is used to create web based applications or enhancements to web pages. If you are not involved in creating web sites, then you will most likely not need this. Trellix Web, according to google this is a suite of web site development tools. Like the python applications, if you are not creating web sites you probably do not need this either. The dot net framework is something that allows programs written in the .Net versions of programming languages to run "better". That is a generalization and a more detailed explanation can be found at http://en.wikipedia...._.NET_Framework. This I would keep. Everything else though is safe to remove.

For removing entries in the Add/Remove panel, follow the instructions at http://www.geekstogo...mp;#entry394059. Be sure to follow them exactly as it involves working in the registry. If you change something you shouldn't, you could wind up with a dead system.
